The Bronze

January 1, 2016

Director Bryan Buckley

Genre Comedy | Drama

Cast Melissa Rauch, Gary Cole, Haley Lu Richardson, Thomas Middleditch

Rating R

Release Date March 18th, 2016

“A foul-mouthed former gymnastics bronze medalist must fight for her local celebrity status when a new young athlete’s star rises in town.”

So far feedback for The Bronze has been well, pretty bad. It doesn't help that the trailer makes it look very much like a low-budget film (which it is) but a few select people who caught the film at the Sundance Film Festival say it is entertaining in a raunchy humor sort of way. The script was written by lead Melissa Rauch and her husband Winston Rauch. My expectations are low on this one but I do like Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley) so I will wait and see. Check out the trailer below.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice

January 1, 2016

Director Zack Snyder

Genre Action | Adventure | Fantasy

Cast Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg

Rating PG-13

Release Date March 25th, 2016

“Fearing the actions of Superman are left unchecked, Batman takes on Superman, while the world wrestles with what kind of a hero it really needs. With Batman and Superman fighting each other, a new threat, Doomsday, is created by Lex Luthor. It’s up to Superman and Batman to set aside their differences along with Wonder Woman to stop Lex Luthor and Doomsday from destroying Metropolis.”

The first few trailers for Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice left me a little skeptical I must say, they just felt like they were a bit too goofy for my taste. I am a huge fan of The Dark Knight films and I felt like Christian Bale played the role of Batman very well. I enjoyed how dark and gritty the films were and I really hope that Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice can set that same tone. Can Ben Affleck get the job done? Sure he can, you just need to have a little faith. Check out the trailer below.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice The Ultimate Edition—which features 30 minutes of new footage incorporated into an extended, R-rated cut of the film—will be available early on Digital HD on June 28th along with the theatrical version of the movie, and both will be available to purchase on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, and Ultra HD Blu-ray on July 19th.”

Hardcore Henry

Director Ilya Naishuller

Genre Action | Adventure | Sci-Fi

Cast Haley Bennett, Tim Roth, Sharlto Copley, Cyrus Arnold

Rating R

Release Date April 8th, 2016

“A first-person action film from the eyes of Henry, who’s resurrected from death with no memory. He must discover his identity and save his wife from a warlord with a plan to bio-engineer soldiers.”
hardcore henry 1.PNG

I think it is rather obvious that Hardcore Henry is a film that offers something we have yet to experience. I mean a legit first-person R-rated action film?! Pinch me because I must be dreaming! I just hope this is half as cool as it looks because that alone would be enough to make it worth my while. Check out the trailer below.

The Boss

January 1, 2016

Director Ben Falcone

Genre Comedy

Cast Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Bell, Peter Dinklage, Kristen Schaal

Rating R

Release Date April 8th, 2016

“A titan of industry is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading. When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget.”

I am not ashamed to admit that I am a Melissa McCarthy fan, I think she is hilarious. She is enjoyable in Mike & Molly but she really shines with her r-rated brand of humor. Admittedly her newest film Spy was one of my favorites and I thought she was fantastic in The Heat alongside Sandra Bullock. I also get a kick out of the fact that her husband appears in all of her films and she is always somehow humiliating him (pictured above). Check out the trailer below.

Everybody Wants Some!!

January 1, 2016

Director Richard Linklater

Genre Comedy

Cast Zoey Deutch, Blake Jenner, Tyler Hoechlin, Ryan Guzman

Rating R

Release Date April 8th, 2016

“A group of college baseball players navigate their way through the freedoms and responsibilities of unsupervised adulthood.”

From director Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Boyhood), Everybody Wants Some is considered to be a spirited sequel to 1993's Dazed and Confused and a continuation of his critically acclaimed 2014 film Boyhood. Linklater states that Everybody Wants Some!! essentially picks up where Boyhood left off which is a freshman arriving at college meeting his new roommates. I really enjoyed Boyhood and I felt that it was a unique and vastly entertaining film and I can't wait to see Linklater's newest work. Check out the trailer below.

Gods Not Dead 2

January 1, 2016

Director Harold Cronk

Genre Drama

Cast Melissa Joan Hart, Jesse Metcalfe, David A.R. White, Ray Wise

Rating PG

Release Date April 1st, 2016

“When a high school teacher is asked a question in class about Jesus, her reasoned response lands her in deep trouble and could expel God from the public square once and for all.”
gods not dead 1.JPG

Gods Not Dead 2 is directed by Harold Cronk who also directed Gods Not Dead, and stars Melissa Joan Hart, Jesse Metcalfe, and David A.R. White. The first film received quite a bit of negative feedback from critics but viewers seemed relatively pleased. Hopefully the sequel receives a warmer critic welcome, or not, I guess it doesn't really matter as long as the people buying the tickets are pleased. Check out the trailer below.

Hush

Director Mike Flanagan

Genre Horror | Thriller

Cast John Gallagher Jr, Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Samantha Sloyan

Rating R

Release Date April 8th, 2016 (Limited Theaters & Netflix)

“A deaf woman is stalked by a psychotic killer in her secluded home.”
hush 1.JPG

Directed and co-written by Mike Flanagan, who also directed Oculus and the yet to be released horror film Before I Wake, Hush is an intimate take on the horror genre. Filmed in less than 18 days, Hush contains under 15 minutes of dialogue meaning that 70 minutes of the hour and 127 minute run-time go by without a single word being spoken. Sounds creepy huh? Flanagan co-wrote the film with his new wife Kate Siegel who stars in the film and also starred in Oculus. Can you handle the tension Hush promises to deliver? We will find out soon enough. The film will be made available on Netflix the day of it's limited theatrical release on April 8th. Check out the trailer below.

The Dark Horse

January 1, 2016

Director James Napier Robinson

Genre Drama

Cast Cliff Curtis, James Rolleston, Kirk Torrance, Miriama McDowell

Rating R

Release Date April 1st, 2016 (Limited Release)

“An emotionally charged and inspiring drama about a man who searches for the courage to lead, despite his own adversities - finding purpose and hope in passing on his gift to the children in his community.”

Cliff Curtis has quite the acting resume and is most recognizable as of late from Fear The Walking dead as well as the Biblical film Risen. He is a very solid actor and it seems that he shines the most when given the right role. The Dark Horse seems to be just that role and it seems he was nearly perfect in his performance and command of his character. Apparently Curtis gained 60 pounds in an effort to accurately portray the character, sounds like Christian Bale type commitment and I am sure he would appreciate the comparison. I am excited for this one, check out the trailer below.

Director Jean-Marc Vallée

Genre Comedy | Drama

Cast Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts, Chris Cooper, Heather Lind

Rating R

Release Date April 8th, 2016

“A successful investment banker struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash.”
demolition 1.PNG

Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club, Wild) Demolition looks like another one of his indie gems. Starring superstar actor Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts, Demolition tells a story that focuses on how we as human beings deal with pain and regret, and just how complicated life can be sometimes. I think it looks like a uniquely engaging dramedy (drama/comedy) and I am excited to see it. Check out the trailer below.

The Brothers Grimsby

January 1, 2016

Director Louis Leterrier

Genre Action | Comedy

Cast Mark Strong, Sacha Baron Cohen, Rebel Wilson, Penelope Cruz

Rating R

Release Date March 11th, 2016

“A new assignment forces a top spy to team up with his football hooligan brother.”

Directed by Louis Letterier (The Transporter 1 & 2, Now You See Me) The Brothers Grimsby stars over-the-top uncensored goofball actor Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Bruno) and supporting role superstar Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Secret Service). The film is co-written by Baron Cohen as well as Peter Baynham who co-wrote the 2006 film Borat together. The Brothers Grimsby looks like it could serve as an entertaining action-comedy suitable for a few thrills and plenty of cheap laughs. Well that is my hope anyway, check out the trailer below.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny

Director Woo-Ping Yuen

Genre Action | Adventure | Drama

Cast Donnie Yen, Michelle Yeoh, Harry Shum Jr., Jason Scott Lee

Rating PG-13

Release Date February 26th, 2016 (Netflix)

“A story of lost love, young love, a legendary sword and one last opportunity at redemption.”

The straight to Netflix release that will show in limited theaters looks like it could have some promise. I feel biased because nothing will ever compare to Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon, but I will give Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny a chance. Who knows it may impress me. Director Stephen Hopkins

Genre Biography | Drama | Sport

Cast Jason Sudeikis, Stephan James, Carice van Houten, Jeremy Irons

Release Date February, 19th 2016

“Jesse Owens’ quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy.”

I'm not quite sure how I feel about the new film Race. It looks to be a feel good story, chronicling a mans road to redemption amid extreme odds but one of my main issues is Jason Sudeikis in a serious role. Race will be Sudeikis very first drama and he could very well surprise us. Well I guess we will find out soon enough The film takes place during the 1936 Olympics and follows the true story of Jesse Owens and his quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history. Check out the trailer below.

Get a Job

January 1, 2016

Director Dylan Kidd

Genre Comedy

Cast Miles Teller, Anna Kendrick, Bryan Cranston, Alison Brie

Rating R

Release Date March 25th, 2016

“Life after college graduation is not exactly going as planned for Will and Jillian who find themselves lost in a sea of increasingly strange jobs. But with help from their family, friends and coworkers they soon discover that the most important (and hilarious) adventures are the ones that we don’t see coming.”

Anna Kendrick is a bit of a local hero where I live and the fact that her career has reached incredible heights doesn't hurt. I met her once and I will admit I was starstruck, I mean who wouldn't be? What I really respect is the fact that she is always willing to do a variety of films most of which are indie or just really under the radar. In Get A Job she teams up with Miles Teller and I can already picture the instant on-screen chemistry between these two. I am looking forward to seeing this one, check out the trailer below.
