Captain America: Civil War

March 16, 2016

Director Anthony Russo, Joe Russo

Genre Action | Sci-Fi | Thriller

Cast Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan

Rating PG-13

Release Date May 6th, 2016

“Political interference in the Avengers’ activities causes a rift between former allies Captain America and Iron Man.”

We have quite a few successful comic book turned film franchises to hang our hats on these days so it can be tough to choose a favorite. If I had to pick I would lean towards Captain America , I mean the guy is the embodiment of what a superhero should be, good looking, super fit, high moral compass, and most importantly a die-hard New England born Patriots fan.

Captain America: Civil War looks like it will be absolutely amazing and may potentially blow The Winter Soldier out of the water, which was also very good. Things get a little hot and heated for The Avengers on May 6th so be sure to mark your calendars and check out the trailer below. It gives me chills each and every time I watch it.

Didn't quite do it for you? Well you are certainly high maintenance that's for sure. Lucky for you we have another trailer with a special guest appearance from yet another superhero. Check it out below.

Money Monster

March 16, 2016

Director Jodie Foster

Genre Crime | Drama | Thriller

Cast Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Jack O'Connell, Caitriona Balfe

Rating R

Release Date May 13th, 2016

“In the real-time, high stakes thriller Money Monster, financial TV host Lee Gates (George Clooney) and his producer Patty (Julia Roberts) are put in an explosive situation when an irate investor (Jack O’Connell) takes over their studio.”
money monster 1.JPG

Directed by actress turned director Jodie Foster, who has an impressive 75 acting credits on her resume, Money Monster stars Julia Roberts, George Clooney, and Jack O'Connell. The film is a thrilling take on the ups and downs of the stock market and what can happen when someone truly feels like they have nothing to lose. I am a huge George Clooney fan and Julia Roberts always aims to please as well so I am excited for Money Monster. A fun fact is that the screenplay was featured in the 2014 Blacklist; a list of the "most liked" unmade scripts of the year. Check out the trailer below.

The Lobster

March 16, 2016

Director Yorgos Lanthimos

Genre Comedy | Drama | Romance

Cast Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, John C. Reilly, Ariane Labed

Rating R

Release Date May 13th, 2016

“In a dystopian near future, single people, according to the laws of The City, are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in forty-five days or are transformed into beasts and sent off into The Woods.”
the lobster 1.JPG

Colin Farrell is a fantastic actor who has built himself quite the resume. Like many of Hollywood's leading men, every now and again they star in something a bit unique and very much under-the-radar. The Lobster has a very interesting premise and looks like a film that is much deeper than it may seem to be at first glimpse. The film will undoubtedly receive a limited release but I think it looks good. Check out the trailer below.

The Darkness

March 16, 2016

Director Greg McLean

Genre Horror | Thriller

Cast Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Morrison, Lucy Fry, Radha Mitchell

Rating PG-13

Release Date May 13th, 2016

“A family returns from a Grand Canyon vacation with a supernatural presence in tow.”

The Darkness is directed by Greg McLean who has a somewhat extensive yet sadly unimpressive IMDb resume. He has churned our quite a few B horror's in his career but nothing memorable. With a decent cast consisting of the ageless Kevin Bacon and Jennifer Morrison, The Darkness might be a chance for him McLean to finally release something worth talking about. The trailer certainly has me intrigued, check it out below.

Director Peter Atencio

Genre Comedy

Cast Keegan Michael-Key, Jordan Peele, Will Forte, Jason Mitchell

Rating R

Release Date April 29th, 2016

“Friends hatch a plot to retrieve a stolen cat by posing as drug dealers for a street gang.”

Key & Peele have done quite well for themselves with their Comedy Central skits, that goes without saying. They have both "dabbled" in the movie business but have yet to concoct their own film for the masses. That is until now. Introducing Keanu, what looks to be a hilarious comedic version of John Wick with a cute kitten causing all of the fuss. When I first watched the trailer in theaters I wasn't quite sure if this was a gag or an actual film. Once I knew it was for real I was filled with anticipation and sheer joy. I honestly can't wait for April 29th! Check out the trailer below.

I am looking forward to this one and crossing my fingers that it does not dissapoint. Check out the exciting and intense trailer below.

“It’s been more than 10 years since our last appointment at Calvin’s Barbershop. Calvin and his longtime crew are still there, but the shop has undergone some major changes. Directed by Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man Holiday) Barbershop: The Next Cut or Barbershop 3 (10 years after the second film released) as you could call it takes place in Chicago and attempts to bring the focus to the current gang situation going in in the city. Eye in the Sky

March 13, 2016

Director Gavin Hood

Genre Drama | Thriller | War

Cast Helen Mirren, Aaron Paul, Alan Rickman, Barkhad Abdi

Rating R

Release Date April 1st, 2016

“A military officer in command of a drone operation to capture terrorists in Kenya sees her mission escalate from “capture” to “kill” just as a nine-year old girl enters the kill zone.”

Helen Mirren and Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) together in a film? Sounds like the recipe for success. Eye In The Sky looks like a more intense and bigger scale version of the straight to on-demand but very well done film Good Kill which starred Ethan Hawke. The disconnect between a drone pilot taking lives from thousands of miles away provides a serious moral dilemma that is very real and something very much on this countries radar. Director Gavin Hood (Enders Game, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) might have a masterpiece on his hands with Eye In The Sky, I can't wait to see it. Check out the trailer below.
