  • Claire Denis had in mind this project since 2002. She has been carrying it around for many years and thought she would have to abandon it given the financial issues. Denis wrote the film keeping Philip Seymour Hoffman in mind and was deeply saddened by his untimely demise in 2014.

  • The films world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2018 has caused multiple walkouts during it's screening because of how graphically disturbing and provocative it was. Despite it's divisive reactions from the audience, the movie was well received from film critics attending the festival.
