Crimes of the Future is a 2022 sci-fi horror drama/body horror film written and directed by David Cronenberg, the man responsible for The Fly (1986), and A History of Violence (2005). It is Cronenberg’s first feature film in eight years, and the first film in 35 years not to have his sister Denise head costume design, as she passed away in the summer of 2020. According to Cronenberg himself when asked about the film, he has “unfinished business with the future.” Crimes of the Future was a Competition Official Selection scheduled to debut at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in May.
As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations. With his partner Caprice, Saul Tenser, celebrity performance artist, publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Timlin, an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements, which is when a mysterious group is revealed… Their mission – to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.
The cast includes Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, Kristen Stewart, and Scott Speedman.
