Armageddon Time

Armageddon Time is a 2022 period drama film written, directed, and produced by James Gray, inspired by his childhood upbringing in Queens, New York, in the 1980s. The film was shot in New Jersey with cinematographer Darius Khondji, and premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival on May 19th, 2022.

A deeply personal coming-of-age story about the strength of family and the generational pursuit of the American Dream.

The cast includes Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong, Banks Repeta, Jaylin Webb, and Anthony Hopkins.

Prey for the Devil

Prey for the Devil is a 2022 supernatural horror film directed by Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism, 13 Sins) and written by Robert Zappia (Halloween H20), based on a story by Todd R. Jones and Earl Richey Jones. It is the final film to feature actor Ben Cross before his death in 2020, and is dedicated to his memory.

In response to a global rise in demonic possessions, the Catholic Church reopens exorcism schools to train priests in the Rite of Exorcism. On this spiritual battlefield, an unlikely warrior rises: a young nun, Sister Ann. Although nuns are forbidden to perform exorcisms, a professor recognizes Sister Ann’s gifts and agrees to train her. Thrust onto the spiritual frontline with fellow student Father Dante, Sister Ann finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl, who Sister Ann believes is possessed by the same demon that tormented her own mother years ago, and soon realizes the Devil has her right where he wants her… and it wants in.

The film stars Jacqueline Byers, Colin Salmon, Christian Navarro, Lisa Palfrey, Nicholas Ralph, Virginia Madsen, and Ben Cross.

Till

Till is an upcoming American biographical drama film directed by Chinonye Chukwu (director of Clemency) and written by Michael Reilly, Keith Beauchamp, and Chukwu. It stars Danielle Deadwyler (The Harder They Fall, Station Eleven), Jalyn Hall, Frankie Faison (The Wire), Haley Bennett (Cyrano), and Whoopi Goldberg (Sister Act).

The film tells the real-life story of Mamie Till-Mobley (Deadwyler), an American educator and activist who pursued justice after the lynching of her 14-year-old son, Emmett Till (Hall), in 1955. Beauchamp, Reilly, and Goldberg also produced the film.

Till is set to premiere at the New York Film Festival in 2022. It is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on October 14th before a wide release on October 28th, by United Artists Releasing. Watch the official trailer below.

TÁR

Tár (stylized in all caps as TÁR) is a 2022 psychological drama film written and directed by Todd Field and starring Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine, Carol). It is Field's first film since the release of Little Children (2006). The cast also includes Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a Lady on Fire), Nina Hoss (Homeland), Sophie Kauer, Julian Glover (The Empire Strikes Back), Allan Corduner (Yentl), and Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Shazam!).

The film, set in the international world of classical music, centers on Lydia Tár (Blanchett), widely considered one of the greatest living composers/conductors and the first-ever female chief conductor of a major German orchestra.

Tár premiered at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on September 1, 2022, and is scheduled to receive a limited theatrical release on October 7th before a wide release on October 28th, by Focus Features. Watch the official trailers below.

All Quiet on the Western Front

All Quiet on the Western Front is a 2022 German epic anti-war film based on the 1929 novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque. Directed by Edward Berger, it stars Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Albrecht Schuch, Sebastian Hülk, Felix Kammerer, Aaron Hilmer, Edin Hasanovic, and Devid Striesow.

Set in the closing years of World War I, it follows the life of German soldier Paul Bäumer (Kammerer), who, after enlisting in the German Army with his friends, finds himself at risk to the realities of war, shattering their earliest hopes of becoming heroes.

In August 2022, the film was announced as Germany's submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards.

All Quiet on the Western Front premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2022, and will be released to streaming on Netflix on October 28, 2022. Watch the official teaser trailer below.

Wendell & Wild

Wendell & Wild is a 2022 American stop-motion horror comedy film directed by Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach) from a screenplay written by Selick and Jordan Peele (who also serve as producers), based on Selick and Clay McLeod Chapman's unpublished book of the same name. It stars Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu, The Prom) and Peele (director of Get Out, Us, and Nope) as the titular characters with Lyric Ross (This Is Us), Angela Bassett (Black Panther), James Hong (Chinatown), and Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible franchise) in supporting roles. The film marks Selick's first feature film since Coraline (2009).

Two scheming demon brothers, Wendell and Wild (Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele), enlist the aid of 13-year-old Kat Elliot (Lyric Ross), a tough teen with a load of guilt, to summon them to the Land of the Living. But what Kat demands in return leads to a brilliantly bizarre and comedic adventure like no other.

Wendell & Wild had its world premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2022, and is scheduled to be released in select theaters on October 21 before its streaming release on October 28 by Netflix. Watch the official teaser trailer below.

Call Jane

Call Jane is a 2022 comedy drama film directed by Phyllis Nagy, and written by Hayley Schore and Rohan Sethi. Inspired by true events, Nagy’s film captures the essence of late-Sixties social change via one woman’s quest to get a safe and legal abortion. The film premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2022.

Chicago, 1968. As the city and the nation are poised on the brink of political upheaval, suburban housewife Joy (Elizabeth Banks) leads an ordinary life with her husband and daughter. When Joy’s pregnancy leads to a life-threatening heart condition, she must navigate an all-male medical establishment unwilling to terminate her pregnancy in order to save her life.

The full cast includes Elizabeth Banks, Sigourney Weaver, Chris Messina, Kate Mara, Wunmi Mosaku, Cory Michael Smith, Grace Edwards, and John Magaro.
