MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a 2025 war dark comedy drama film directed by Army veteran Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, from a screenplay by Hausmann-Stokes, A.J. Bermudez, and Cherish Chen. It is based on Hausmann-Stokes's short film Merit x Zoe. It is also the feature directorial debut for Hausmann-Stokes's, who has said the film is dedicated to veterans lost to suicide. The film premiered at South by Southwest on March 9th, 2024, where it won the Audience Award.
Engaged in a mysterious relationship with wise-cracking (and dead) best friend from the Army, a female Afghanistan veteran reluctantly reunites with her estranged Vietnam vet grandfather at the family's ancestral lake house.
The cast includes Sonequa Martin-Green, Natalie Morales, Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman (U.S. Air Force veteran), Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Gloria Reuben.
