Borat Subsequent Moviefilm

March 11, 2017

Director Jason Woliner

Genre Comedy

Cast Sacha Baron Cohen, Tutar Sagdiyev

Rating R

Release Date October 23rd, 2020 (Amazon Prime)

“Follow-up film to the 2006 comedy centering on the real-life adventures of a fictional Kazakh television journalist named Borat.”

To be more specific, this is the Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Chenqui!

Borat is back!! Love him or hate him, Sacha Baron Cohen was born to play this role. His brand of comedy certainly is an acquired taste, but I think he is absolutely hilarious. The sequel to the 2006 comedy, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, is now available to stream on Amazon Prime. Watch the latest trailer below.

Critically Acclaimed Horror 'The Dark and the Wicked' Now Available [TRAILER]

March 11, 2017

I am a horror movie guy through and through, but finding a horror movie that actually scares me has become quite a task. I have learned that for me the scariest movies are rooted in the scariest thing of all, which is of course, reality.

The movie that stands out for me the most as of late is Hereditary, a movie that slowly drags you down a path of pure dread and never lets go. I also really enjoyed Relic, which admittedly reinforces the fact that deranged old ladies creep me out. Which brings me to yet another horror movie that seems to blend both of the things I enjoy most about horror movies, The Dark and the Wicked.

Written and directed by Brian Bertino, the man who brought us The Strangers (2008), and also produced the under-the-radar indie horror The Blackcoats Daughter (REVIEW), which I thought was fantastic, so it seems he has a knack for legit horror.

The synopsis for The Dark and the Wicked is as follows:

“On a secluded farm in a nondescript rural town, a man is slowly dying. His family gathers to mourn, and soon a darkness grows, marked by waking nightmares and a growing sense that something evil is taking over the family.”

The film stars Marin Ireland (AMC’s The Killing, The Irishman) and Michael Abbott Jr. The trailer leaves you with more questions than answers and is absolutely drenched in pure dread, just the way I like it. I can’t wait for this to come out.

The Dark and the Wicked is set to hit limited theaters & On-Demand November 6th.

On the Rocks

March 11, 2017

After a long wait the duo teams up again with the comedy drama On The Rocks. In the film, Murray stars alongside Rashida Jones and Marlon Wayans. Jones plays a young mother who reconnects with her larger-than-life playboy father, played by Murray, on an adventure through New York. The trailer is great in my opinion and sets the stage for an adult coming-of-age comedy drama allowing viewers the opportunity to witness a unique father and daughter bond. In an interview earlier this year with 92Y, Coppola talked about the dynamic of the film:

“It’s kind of the clash of how they look at relationships and also how your relationship with your parent affects your relationships in your life. … It’s the two of them as a father and daughter sort of on a little adventure to spy on her husband. It’s a lot of them talking about life and men and women over martinis in New York.”

On The Rocks is an A24 and Apple TV+ joint release as part of their new partnership, hitting limited theaters October 2nd and Apple TV+ October 23rd.

The Haunting of Bly Manor

March 10, 2017

Summer has been fun but the Fall season is upon us, and that means apple picking, pumpkins, and of course, Halloween. This is an exciting time of year for horror fanatics like myself as we start to re-watch all of our favorite scary movies. Two years ago, series creator Mike Flanagan, the man behind Oculus and HUSH, brought pure joy to the horror community with the Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House.

I mean the show was simply amazing - it was well-acted, the production value and cinematography was on point, and most importantly it had a legit “give you chills” horror feel throughout.

Fast forward to the 2020, a year that has been one big horror movie in all of the worst ways, and Flanagan is back with a follow-up series - The Haunting of Bly Manor. It promises to stay true to what made Hill House so good and the trailer does not disappoint.

Watch the trailers below but proceed with caution, you might pee a little. The Haunting of Bly Manor is set to hit Netflix on October 9th.

“THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING…”

The trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s drama The Trial of the Chicago 7 is here, and right out of the gate you know that if his name is attached to the project, it will be worth watching. The Trial of the Chicago 7 is a drama based on true events that tells the story of 7 people on trial stemming from various charges surrounding the uprising at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois. The film includes a talented cast including Sacha Baron Cohen in a rare dramatic role, as well as Eddie Redmayne, Jeremy Strong, Mark Rylance, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The film will drop on Netflix October 16th. Watch the trailer below.

The War with Grandpa

March 10, 2017

Is this a PG rated comedy? Yes it is, but when you pair Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken together, I don’t care if its a hemorrhoids commercial I am absolutely watching. I know Dirty Grandpa starring De Niro and Zac Efron was hammered by critics and viewers alike, but I actually really enjoyed it. It is one of those raunchy R-rated comedies that you know pretty much what to expect once you’ve seen the trailer.

Oddly enough, Dirty Grandpa is the first movie I reviewed for this site nearly 5 years ago, and I remember sitting in the theater and during one of the first scenes De Niro is “keeping himself company” if you know what I mean, and Efron walks in on him. An older guy easily late 60’s/early 70’s walked out of the theater right then with the most disgusted look on his face, it was glorious. He was definitely one of those old dudes who shows up to the theater and decides what he wants to see by looking at the movie posters - he won’t make that mistake again.

Now back to the family-friendly content I promised. The War With Grandpa tells the story of a kid named Peter, who is upset that he now has to share the room he loves with his grandfather, so he decides to declare war in an attempt to get it back. This forces both sides to team up with their age appropriate friends, leading to what looks to be some hilarious moments.

Co-stars include Uma Thurman, Jane Seymour, Rob Riggle, Cheech Marin, and up-and-coming young actor Oakes Fegley (Pete’s Dragon). The film is based on a book written by Robert Kimmell Smith.

And if interested you can read our review for Dirty Grandpa (2016) here, just make sure the kids are in bed before you decide to watch this raunchy comedy.

Fargo: Season 4

March 9, 2017

Genre Crime | Drama | Thriller

Cast Timothy Olyphant, Jason Schwartzman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Chris Rock

Rating TV-MA

Series Premiere September 27th, 2020

“Family is complicated. Crime is organized. Experience a large-scale gangster epic set in 1950’s Kansas City.”

Fargo has become one of my favorite shows on television, combining an incredible cast and stellar writing each and every season. One of the craziest things to me is the fact that the cast changes every season, as the show was created in the anthology format, and each time I am blown away. In the 4th season creator Noah Hawley promises us a gangster epic that is set in 1950’s Kansas City. Various chronicles of deception, intrigue and murder in and around frozen Minnesota. Yet all of these tales mysteriously lead back one way or another to Fargo, North Dakota.

I personally can’t wait for the new release date of September 27th. It was confirmed that they will release two episodes back to back on FX with each episode after that coming in the weekly format. All episodes available on FX on Hulu the day after they air. Check out the official trailers below!!

Ted Takes Fun Facts, FX’s Fargo:

  • Season 4 of Fargo was originally set to premiere on April 19, exactly two years to the day that Season 3 debuted.

  • Set in 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri, it is the first season to not take place primarily in Minnesota or the Dakotas.

The Devil All the Time

March 7, 2017

Netflix has finally graced us with the first trailer for the upcoming thriller The Devil All the Time, which includes a stellar cast with Robert Pattinson, Jason Clarke, Riley Keough, Sebastian Stan, Tom Holland, Bill Skarsgård, and Haley Bennett. The cast alone is reason enough to watch but the trailer does NOT disappoint. Taking place in between World War II and the Vietnam war, The Devil All the Time is an interconnected story of some very unsavory characters.

Just watching the trailer will make you feel a little grimy, and thats a plus in my book. In my mind this is either going to be absolutely amazing or will be a massive letdown considering what they have to work with - hopefully it is the latter. I just hope the dark and gritty feel of the trailer is evident in the film as well and not just a slick marketing ploy. I’m not all that familiar with director Antonio Campos but he did work on the Netflix series The Sinner, so thats something at least. And with the talent he has at his disposal I could make a movie worth watching.

The Devil All the Time hits Netflix on September 16th.
