The Office Is Leaving Netflix, But Where Is It Going?

The Office will officially leave streaming giant Netflix at the end of 2020, but where is it going?

The Office launched in 2005 and quickly became a fan favorite winning the outstanding comedy series Emmy in 2006. The show soon had an undeniably monstrous fan following turning it into an absolute cash cow for Netflix where it found a home after it's finale on NBC in 2013. Unfortunately for Netflix, the show is finally moving on.

Beginning January 2021, The Office will stream exclusively on NBC's new streaming service Peacock for a 5-year run. Peacock will officially launch on July 15th.

Did you know The Office is based on the British series of the same name?

Premiering on March 24th 2005 and running until May 16th 2013, The Office is a documentary style sitcom based on the British series of the same name. Steve Carell stars in the U.S. version taking on the role previously played by comedian Ricky Gervais. A co-creator of the original series, Gervais also co-created the U.S. version of the show which was much more well received compared to its British counterpart. Even though it received favorable ratings, the original series only ran for 2 seasons with 6 episodes each from 2001-2003. The original show also starred Stephen Merchant and Martin Freeman. You can stream the British version of The Office on Hulu.

Long story short, die hard fans of The Office need to plan on adding yet another subscription service.
