The Bear: Season 2

The Bear is a is a comedy drama series created by Christopher Storer, with Joanna Calo and Ramy Youssef assisting in directing duties. The first season of the series premiered on June 23rd, 2022, and received glowing reviews from viewers and critics ensuring a second season was greenlit almost immediately. Jeremy Allen White, best known for his role as Phillip “Lip” Gallagher in the comedy drama series Shameless, is the star of the series.

A young chef from the fine dining world comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop after a heartbreaking death in his family.

The full cast includes Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliott, and Matty Matheson.

Hijack

Hijack (stylized as H/JACK) is a British thriller miniseries created by George Kay (who wrote and co-created the international Netflix series Criminal and Lupin) and Jim Field Smith (She’s Out of My League), starring Idris Elba (Luther, The Wire, Thor).

Sam Nelson (Elba), a talented business negotiator, must use his skills to broker a peaceful end to a hijacking of a flight from Dubai to London.

Run Rabbit Run

Run Rabbit Run is a 2023 Australian psychological horror film directed by Daina Reid (directed episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale and HBO’s The Outsider) and written by Hannah Kent. It stars Sarah Snook (Succession), Lily LaTorre, Damon Herriman (Justified, Mindhunter), and Greta Scacchi (The Player, Broken Trail).

Sarah (Snook) is a fertility doctor with a firm understanding of the cycle of life. When she is forced to make sense of the increasingly strange behavior of her young daughter Mia (LaTorre), she must challenge her own beliefs and confront a ghost from her past.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 19, 2023, and was released on Netflix on June 28, 2023. Watch the official trailer below.

No Hard Feelings

No Hard Feelings is a 2023 coming-of-age comedy film directed by Gene Stupnitsky (Good Boys), from a screenplay he co-wrote with John Phillips. Jennifer Lawrence stars and also serves as a producer on the film.

On the brink of losing her childhood home, Maddie (Jennifer Lawrence) discovers an intriguing job listing: wealthy helicopter parents looking for someone to "date" their introverted 19-year-old son, Percy, before he leaves for college. To her surprise, Maddie soon discovers the awkward Percy is no sure thing.

The cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Andrew Barth Feldman, Matthew Broderick, Laura Benanti, Natalie Morales, Scott MacArthur (Killing It), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear).

Asteroid City

Asteroid City is a 2023 science fiction romantic comedy drama film written, directed and co-produced by Wes Anderson, based on a story by Anderson and Roman Coppola. The film premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in May 2023.

The itinerary of a 1955 Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

The star-studded cast includes Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, and Jeff Goldblum.

Past Lives

Past Lives is a 2023 romantic drama film written and directed by Celine Song, in her feature directorial debut. The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 21st, 2023.

Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are wrest apart after Nora's family emigrates from South Korea. 20 years later, they are reunited for one fateful week as they confront notions of love and destiny.

The cast includes Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, John Magaro, and Moon Seung-ah.

Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is a 2023 streaming miniseries created by Kyle Bradstreet for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name. It is intended to be the ninth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) produced by Marvel Studios, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. Bradstreet serves as the head writer with Ali Selim directing.

Nick Fury uncovers a conspiracy for a group of shapeshifting Skrulls to infiltrate Earth in positions of power around the world, recruiting Everett K. Ross, Maria Hill, and Talos to stop it and save humanity.

The cast includes Samuel L. Jackson returning as Nick Fury from the film series, along with Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, with Cobie Smulders, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Martin Freeman, and Don Cheadle also starring.

Secret Invasion is scheduled to premiere on June 21st, 2023, on Disney+ and will consist of six episodes. It will be the first series of Phase Five of the MCU. Watch the official trailer below.

The Flash

The Flash is a 2023 superhero action film directed by Andy Muschietti (IT films, Mama), from a screenplay by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, Bumblebee), with a screen story by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Joby Harold (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Army of the Dead), based on characters from DC. The film is the first standalone film for The Flash character.

Worlds collide when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

Elemental

Elemental is a 2023 computer-animated romantic drama film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Denise Ream, it features a screenplay and story by John Hoberg, Kat Likkel, and Brenda Hsueh, as well as Sohn.

In a city where fire, water, land and air residents live together, a fiery young woman and a go-with-the-flow guy are about to discover something elemental: how much they actually have in common.

The cast includes the voices of Leah Lewis, Mamoudou Athie, Ronnie del Carmen, Shila Ommi, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Catherine O'Hara, Mason Wertheimer, Joe Pera, and Matt Yang King

The Blackening

The Blackening is a 2022 comedy horror film directed by Tim Story (Ride Along, Think Like A Man, Barbershop), and co-written by Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip, Harlem) & Dewayne Perkins (The Amber Ruffin Show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine). It is a feature-length version of the 2018 short film by the improv comedy troupe 3Peat. The film premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival on September 16, 2022, and was second runner-up for the People's Choice Award for Midnight Madness.

A group of Black friends reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer. Forced to play by his rules, the friends soon realize this ain’t no motherf****** game.

The cast includes Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Melvin Gregg, X Mayo, Dewayne Perkins, Antoinette Robertson, Sinqua Walls, with Jay Pharoah, and Yvonne Orji.

Extraction 2

Extraction 2 is a 2023 action thriller film directed by Sam Hargrave and written by Joe Russo, based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman. It is a sequel to the 2020 film Extraction.

After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.

The cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani, Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt, Tinatin Dalakishvili and Idris Elba.

Chevalier

Chevalier is a 2022 biographical drama film directed by Stephen Williams and written by Stefani Robinson, inspired by the incredible true story of French-Caribbean composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. It had its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2022.

The rise and downfall of Chevalier de Saint-Georges, a French-Caribbean violinist, composer ("Black Mozart") and son of an African slave, who rose to fame through his musical prodigy. But after falling out with Marie Antoinette and a complicated love life, Saint-Georges finds himself falling down a French society he was once at the top of.

The cast includes Kelvin Harrison Jr., Samara Weaving, Lucy Boynton, Marton Csokas, Alex Fitzalan, and Minnie Driver.

Flamin' Hot

Flamin' Hot is a 2023 American biographical comedy-drama film directed by Eva Longoria and written by Lewis Colick and Linda Yvette. It is based on the memoir A Boy, a Burrito and a Cookie: From Janitor to Executive by Richard Montañez, and on the life stories of Montañez and his wife Judy, the former who claimed to have invented "Flamin' Hot Cheetos".

The film stars Jesse Garcia (Ambulance), Annie Gonzalez (Spies in Disguise), Dennis Haysbert (Heat, Jarhead), Matt Walsh (The Hangover, Elf), and Tony Shalhoub (Cars, Men in Black).

Flamin' Hot had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 11, 2023, and is scheduled to be released on June 9, 2023, by Hulu and Disney+. Watch the official trailer below.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a 2023 science fiction action film directed by Steven Caple Jr., written by Joby Harold, Darnell Metayer, Josh Peters, Erich Hoeber, and Jon Hoeber, from a story by Joby Harold. Based on Hasbro's Transformers toy-line and primarily influenced by the Beast Wars storyline, it will be the seventh installment in the live-action Transformers film series and the sequel to Bumblebee (2018).

In 1994, a pair of archaeologists from Brooklyn come into an ancient conflict through a globe-trotting adventure that ties in with three factions of Transformers: the Maximals, the Predacons and the Terrorcons.

The cast includes Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, along with a stellar cast of voice actors including Michelle Yeoh, Ron Perlman, Peter Dinklage, Pete Davidson, Michaela Jaé (MJ) Rodriguez, Peter Cullen, and Cristo Fernández.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a 2023 animated action-adventure superhero film directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, from a script by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Dave Callaham, based on characters from Stan Lee.

After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

The Boogeyman

The Boogeyman is a 2023 supernatural horror film directed by Rob Savage (Host) from a screenplay by Scott Beck, Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place) and Mark Heyman (Black Swan), based on the 1973 short story of the same name by Stephen King. The film was originally scheduled for a streaming release on Hulu before switching to a theatrical release.

High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are reeling from the recent death of their mother and aren’t getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who is dealing with his own pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their home seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.

The film stars Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets), Chris Messina (Birds of Prey), Vivien Lyra Blair (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy, Madison Hu, LisaGay Hamilton (Vice), and David Dastmalchian (Dune).

The Idol

The Idol is an American drama television series created by Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, Reza Fahim, and Sam Levinson, who is also the creator of the HBO teen drama series Euphoria.

The Idol focuses on Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), an aspiring pop idol who, after having a nervous breakdown that causes her last tour to be canceled, resolves to reclaim her title as the sexiest pop star in America and begins a complex relationship with Tedros (Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye), a self-help guru and the head of a contemporary cult.

Appearing in supporting roles are Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), Troye Sivan (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Boy Erased), Moses Sumney, Jane Adams (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek), Jennie Ruby Jane, Eli Roth (Inglourious Basterds), Rachel Sennott (Shiva Baby, Bodies Bodies Bodies), Hari Nef (Assassination Nation, Meet Cute), Da'Vine Joy Randolph (High Fidelity), Mike Dean, Ramsey, and Hank Azaria (Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Brockmire). The series will also mark the final television appearance of Anne Heche (Donnie Brasco, Psycho), who died on August 11, 2022.

The Idol's first two episodes premiered on May 22, 2023 at 76th Cannes Film Festival where it was panned by critics for its graphic sexual content and themes. It is scheduled to begin airing on HBO on June 4, 2023. Watch the official trailer below.

Reality

Reality is a 2023 American drama film directed by Tina Satter, from a screenplay by Satter and James Paul Dallas. It is based on the FBI interrogation transcript of American intelligence leaker Reality Winner, which Satter previously staged as the play Is This a Room.

It stars Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) as Winner, with Marchánt Davis (The Day Shall Come) and Josh Hamilton (13 Reasons Why, Eighth Grade) in supporting roles.

Reality premiered at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival on February 18, 2023, and was released only on the streaming service Max on May 29, 2023, by HBO Films. Watch the official trailer below.

The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid is a 2023 musical fantasy film directed by Oscar® nominee Rob Marshall (Chicago, Mary Poppins Returns) with a screenplay by two-time Oscar nominee David Magee (Life of Pi, Finding Neverland). The songs feature music from multiple Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin) and lyrics by Howard Ashman, and new lyrics by three-time Tony Award® winner Lin-Manuel Miranda. The film is produced by two-time Emmy® winner Marc Platt (“Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert,” “Grease Live!”), Miranda, two-time Emmy winner John DeLuca (Tony Bennett: An American Classic), and Rob Marshall, with Jeffrey Silver (The Lion King) serving as executive producer. It is a live-action adaptation of Disney's 1989 animated film of the same name, which itself is loosely based on the 1837 fairy tale of the same title by Hans Christian Andersen.

The youngest of King Triton's daughters, Ariel is a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. Longing to find out more about the world beyond the sea, Ariel visits the surface and falls for the dashing Prince Eric. Following her heart, she makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to experience life on land.

The cast includes Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Noma Dumezweni, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy.

About My Father is a 2023 comedy directed by Laura Terruso and written by Austen Earl & Sebastian Maniscalco.

Sebastian is encouraged by his fiancée to bring his immigrant, hairdresser father, Salvo, to a weekend get-together with her super-rich and exceedingly eccentric family. The weekend develops into what can only be described as a culture clash, leaving Sebastian and Salvo to discover that the great thing about family is everything about family.
