Fancy Dance

Fancy Dance is a 2023 drama film directed by Erica Tremblay in her feature narrative directorial debut, from a screenplay by Tremblay and Miciana Alise. The film premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival on January 20, 2023.

Since her sister’s disappearance, Jax (Lily Gladstone) has cared for her niece Roki (Isabel Deroy-Olson) by scraping by on the Seneca-Cayuga reservation in Oklahoma. Every spare minute goes into finding her missing sister while also helping Roki prepare for an upcoming powwow. At the risk of Jax losing custody to Roki’s grandfather, Frank (Shea Whigham), the pair hit the road and scour the backcountry to track down Roki’s mother in time for the powwow. What begins as a search gradually turns into a far deeper investigation into the complexities and contradictions of Indigenous women moving through a colonized world while at the mercy of a failed justice system.

The cast includes Lily Gladstone, Isabel DeRoy-Olson, Shea Whigham, Ryan Begay, Crystle Lightning, and Audrey Wasilewski.

Janet Planet

Janet Planet is a 2023 coming-of-age drama written and directed by Annie Baker in her directorial debut. The film premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival.

In rural Western Massachusetts, 11-year-old Lacy spends the summer of 1991 at home, enthralled by her own imagination and the attention of her mother, Janet. As the months pass, three visitors enter their orbit, all captivated by Janet.

The cast includes Julianne Nicholson, Zoe Ziegler, Elias Koteas, Will Patton, and Sophie Okonedo.

A Family Affair

A Family Affair is a 2024 romantic comedy film directed by Richard LaGravenese, and written by Carrie Solomon. It was originally scheduled to release in November 2023 but was delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.

A young woman named Zara works as an assistant for movie star Chris Cole — that is, until Chris falls in love with her mother.

The cast includes Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Joey King, Liza Koshy, Kathy Bates, and Shirley MacLaine.

A Sacrifice is a 2024 psychological drama film written and directed by Jordan Scott. It is an adaptation of Nicholas Hogg's 2015 novel Tokyo.

American social psychologist Ben Monroe investigates a local cult connected to a disturbing event, while his daughter becomes embroiled with a mysterious local boy.

The cast includes Eric Bana, Sadie Sink, and Sylvia Hoeks.

Late Bloomers

Late Bloomers is a 2023 American coming-of-age comedy drama film, directed by Lisa Steen in her directorial debut, from a screenplay by Anna Greenfield. The film had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 10, 2023.

Louise, an aimless twenty-something musician who is recently single, is injured when she drunkenly breaks her hip. The subsequent physical therapy sees her associate with people twice her age, and she meets Antonina, a Polish lady who speaks no English, and is hired to be her caretaker.

The cast includes Karen Gillan, Margaret Sophie Stein, Jermaine Fowler, Talia Balsam, and Kevin Nealon.

The Bikeriders

The Bikeriders is a 2023 drama film written and directed by Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Mud). It tells a fictional story inspired by the 1968 photo book of the same name by Danny Lyon and stars an ensemble cast that includes Jodie Comer (Killing Eve, The Last Duel), Austin Butler (Elvis), Tom Hardy (Inception, Mad Max: Fury Road), Michael Shannon (Man of Steel, Knives Out), Mike Faist (West Side Story), and Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead). The film premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival on August 31, 2023.

Kathy (Comer), a strong-willed member of the Vandals who's married to a wild, reckless bike rider named Benny (Butler), recounts the Vandals' evolution over the course of a decade, beginning as a local club of outsiders united by good times, rumbling bikes, and respect for their strong, steady leader Johnny (Hardy). Over the years, Kathy tries her best to navigate her husband's untamed nature and his allegiance to Johnny, with whom she feels she must compete for Benny's attention. As life in the Vandals gets more dangerous, and the club threatens to become a more sinister gang, Kathy, Benny, and Johnny are forced to make choices about their loyalty to the club and to each other.

Thelma

Thelma is a 2024 comedy film written and directed by Josh Margolin. The film, which premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on January 18, 2024, is inspired by a real-life experience involving Margolin’s own grandmother.

When 93-year-old Thelma Post gets duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, she sets out on a treacherous quest across the city to reclaim what was taken from her.

The cast includes June Squibb, Fred Hechinger, Richard Roundtree, Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, and Malcolm McDowell.

Kinds of Kindness

Kinds of Kindness (originally titled And) is a 2024 anthology film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster, Poor Things), from a screenplay he co-wrote with Efthimis Filippou.

A triptych fable following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.

The cast includes Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer.

Trigger Warning

Trigger Warning is a 2024 action thriller film directed by Mouly Surya in her English-language film debut, from a screenplay by John Brancato, Josh Olson, and Halley Gross. Produced by Thunder Road Films and Lady Spitfire, the film is based on a short story by Otep Shamaya.

A skilled Special Forces commando (Jessica Alba) takes ownership of her father's bar after he suddenly dies, and soon finds herself at odds with a violent gang running rampant in her hometown.

The cast includes Jessica Alba, Mark Webber, Tone Bell, Jake Weary, Gabriel Basso, and Anthony Michael Hall.

Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 is a 2024 animated film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is directed by Kelsey Mann (Party Central). Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, and Diane Lane all return to reprise their roles from Inside Out (2015), with Maya Hawke joining the voice cast as the new Emotion: Anxiety.

Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.

Presumed Innocent

Presumed Innocent 2024 eight-part limited series starring and executive produced by Jake Gyllenhaal, from David E. Kelley and executive producer J.J. Abrams. The series is from Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Bad Robot is under an overall deal.

Based on The New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Scott Turow, the gripping series takes viewers on a journey through the horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys' office when chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich (played by Gyllenhaal) is suspected of the crime. The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.

The cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, O-T Fagbenle, Chase Infiniti, Nana Mensah, Renate Reinsve, Peter Sarsgaard, Kingston Rumi Southwick, and Elizabeth Marvel.

Tuesday is a 2023 fantasy drama film written and directed by Daina O. Pusic in her feature directorial debut. A co-production between A24, the BFI and BBC Film, it had its world premiere at the 50th Telluride Film Festival on September 1st, 2023.

A mother and her teenage daughter must confront Death when it arrives in the form of an astonishing talking bird.

The cast includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Daina Oniunas-Pusic, Arinzé Kene, Lola Petticrew, and Leah Harvey.

House of the Dragon: Season 2

House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik served as the showrunners for the first season. Based on parts of Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood, the series begins about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen Conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the "Dance of the Dragons".

House of the Dragon received a straight-to-series order in October 2019, with casting beginning in July 2020 and principal photography starting in April 2021 in the United Kingdom. The series premiered on August 21, 2022, with the first season consisting of ten episodes. Five days after its premiere, the series was renewed for a second season. Sapochnik departed as showrunner after the first season, leaving Condal to serve as the sole showrunner for the second season. Bad Boys: Ride or Die

Bad Boys: Ride or Die is a 2024 action comedy directed by Adil & Bilall (Bad Boys for Life), from a screenplay by Chris Bremner and based on characters created by George Gallo. The film is produced by Columbia Pictures in association with 2.0 Entertainment, Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer Films, Westbrook Studios, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is the sequel to Bad Boys for Life (2020) and the fourth installment in the Bad Boys franchise.

A modern, highly specialized police unit collides with the Bad Boys when a new threat emerges in Miami.

The Watchers is a 2024 horror thriller film written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan, and based on the novel by A.M. Shine. The film is produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan and Nimitt Mankad. The executive producers are Jo Homewood and Stephen Dembitzer.

Mina, a 28-year-old artist, gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.

The cast includes Dakota Fanning (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Ocean’s Eight), Georgina Campbell (Barbarian, Suspicion), Oliver Finnegan (Creeped Out, Outlander) and Olwen Fouere (The Northman, The Tourist). The film is produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan and Nimitt Mankad. The executive producers are Jo Homewood, and Stephen Dembitzer.

Hit Man

Hit Man is a 2024 action comedy from Academy Award-nominated writer/director Richard Linklater, co-written by and also starring Glen Powell. The duo wrote the screenplay based on the 2001 Texas Monthly magazine article of the same name by Skip Hollandsworth. The film premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on September 5th, 2023.

Inspired by the unbelievable true story, a strait-laced professor (Glen Powell) uncovers his hidden talent as a fake hit man in undercover police stings. He meets his match in a client (Adria Arjona) who steals his heart and ignites a powder keg of deception, delight, and mixed-up identities.

The cast includes Glen Powell, Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, Retta, and Molly Bernard.

When Olsen returns from the war, he and Vivienne must confront and make peace with the person each has become.
