The Marsh King's Daughter

October 29, 2023

The Marsh King’s Daughter is a 2023 mystery crime drama directed by Neil Burger (Limitless, Divergent, The Upside), from a screenplay by Elle Smith and Mark L. Smith, based on the 2017 novel by Karen Dionne. Back in 2018 Alicia Vikander was set to star in the film, but due to delays getting the film off the ground Daisy Ridley eventually replaced Vikander.

Helena’s (Daisy Ridley) seemingly ordinary life hides a dark and dangerous truth: her estranged father is the infamous Marsh King (Ben Mendelsohn), the man who kept her and her mother captive in the wilderness for years. When her father escapes from prison, Helena will need to confront her past. Knowing that he will hunt for her and her family, Helena must find the strength to face her demons and outmaneuver the man who taught her everything she knows about surviving in the wild.

The cast includes Daisy Ridley, Ben Mendelsohn, Garrett Hedlund, Caren Pistorius, Brooklynn Prince, and Gil Birmingham.

The Marsh King’s Daughter is set to debut only in theaters on November 3rd, courtesy of Lionsgate. Watch the official trailer below.
