When Taika Waititi, who is Jewish, was asked about why he chose to play the role of Adolf Hitler he said "The answer's simple, what better fu*k you to the guy".
The screenplay for Jo Jo Rabbit was written back in March of 2012. That puts it in between Boy and What we do In The Shadows.
