Ouija: Origin of Evil

April 9, 2016

Director Mike Flanagan

Genre Horror | Thriller

Cast Lulu Wilson, Elizabeth Reaser, Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel

Rating PG-13

Release Date October 21st, 2016

“In 1967 Los Angeles, a widowed mother and her two daughters add a new stunt to bolster their seance scam business and unwittingly invite authentic evil into their home. When the youngest daughter is overtaken by a merciless spirit, the family confronts unthinkable fears to save her and send her possessor back to the other side.”

It's no secret that the first Ouija film (2014) was absolutely terrible, including horrendous acting and overall execution so poor I am surprised it made theaters. I went to see The Shallows recently and I was impressed by a trailer for the sequel, Ouija 2 Origin of Evil, releasing this fall. I am unsure as to why this is being considered a sequel (studio decision I assume), but this film includes a new and quite talented writer and directer Mike Flanagan (luckily he had no involvement with the first film), who previously directed Oculus and the highly rated Netflix exclusive horror film Hush. Rarely does a trailer creep me out but the trailer for Ouija 2 did the trick, check it out below.

Masterminds

April 6, 2016

Director Jared Hess

Genre Action | Comedy | Crime

Cast Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis, Owen Wilson

Rating PG-13

Release Date September 30th, 2016

“A night guard at an armored car company in the Southern U.S. organizes one of the biggest bank heists in American history.”

Masterminds is based on the 1997 Loomis Fargo Bank robbery in Charlotte, NC, where 17.3 million in cash was stolen. The film was also filmed in North Carolina. Initially set to release August 2015, the Masterminds was postponed and actually cancelled indefinitely due to Relativity Media's financial issues that lead to their filing of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Things began to look up and it is back on track for release.

Let me cut right to the chase, I love the cast, love the premise, i'm not so sure about the PG-13 rating but it could work. Masterminds is directed by Jared Hess who is the man responsible for 2004's Napoleon Dynamite which was incredibly goofy but became a cult-classic. He has plenty at his disposal for his newest film which will release this fall and I feel pretty good about it.

Check out the trailers for Masterminds below, including the initial teaser trailer as well as the new full-length trailer.
