The film is yet another treatment of Richard Connell's 1924 short story, "The Most Dangerous Game".
On August 10th, 2019 Universal confirmed they were cancelling the release of the film over backlash of the films premise because of two mass-shootings in the United States. It was announced it would re-release on March 13th 2020. (USA!! USA!!)
