“A reporter confronts the psychological demons from her past when she returns to her hometown to cover a violent murder.”

Created by Marti Noxon, a veteran in the world of television having worked on Prison Break, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Mad Men, and Glee, to name a few, Sharp Objects is a crime drama based on Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn's debut 2006 novel of the same name. Ted Takes Fun Facts, HBO's Sharp Objects:

  • Amy Adams was previously set to star in Dark Places (2015), but dropped out. This then marks her first collaboration with Gillian Flynn.
  • While writing Sharp Objects, Flynn found that it was initially difficult to maintain the book's "moist," gothic tone", as she didn't want it to feel like something from Entertainment Weekly. As she was working for Entertainment Weekly while she was writing the novel, Flynn wrote the book predominantly on nights and weekends, a few hours at a time.

Director Stefano Sollima

Genre Action | Crime | Drama

Cast Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, Jeffrey Donovan, Matthew Modine

Rating R

Release Date June 29th, 2018

“The drug war on the US-Mexico border has escalated as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border. To fight the war, federal agent Matt Graver re-teams with the mercurial Alejandro.”

Directed by Stefano Sollima and written by talented writer Taylor Sheridan (Hell or High Water, Wind River, Sicario), Sicario: Day of the Soldado is the follow-up to the hit 2015 crime thriller, and Sheridan promises that the sequel will take the violence to the next level which is crazy considering how intense the first film was. Sheridan has proven to be a genius when it comes to writing scripts for intense crime thrillers so I can't wait for this! I am sad that Emily Blunt won't be returning but considering how the first film ended i'm not necessarily surprised. The cast includes Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, Jeffrey Donovan, and Matthew Modine. Check out the official trailers below!!

Ted Takes Fun Facts, Sicario: Day of the Soldado:

  • The first installment in the series was titled "Sicario", a Spanish word that is translated into "hitman" in English. "Soldado" in English, means soldier.
  • Denis Villenevue could not return to direct this sequel due to scheduling conflicts with Arrival (2016) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017).

GLOW: Season 2

August 8, 2016

Genre Comedy | Drama | Sport

Cast Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Britney Young, Marc Maron

Rating TV-MA

Series Premiere June 29th, 2018 (Netflix)

“A look at the personal and professional lives of a group of women who perform for a wrestling organization in Los Angeles.”

The first season of GLOW took Netflix by storm and much to the delight of viewers the girls are back in their ridiculously outdated yet oddly appealing wrestling attire. I absolutely loved the first season and enjoyed the balance between comedy and drama, plus I am all for supporting Tokyo born actress Britney Young who was raised in the same picturesque Alaska town my girlfriend grew up in, Eagle River. It's a funny story actually, I was watching the first season of the show and my girlfriend just happened to be on the couch working on her laptop and she recognized Britney's voice and looked up and said "I went to high school with her!". Needless to say I thought she was mistaken, and lo and behold, she was correct. Crazy right?! She is soooo damn good in this show too. The cast includes Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Britney Young, Marc Maron, Britt Baron, Sydelle Noel, and Kia Stevens. Check out the official trailer below!!

Ted Takes Fun Facts, GLOW:

  • Kia Stevens, who plays Tamee/Welfare Queen in the series, is the only female cast member who is actually a professional wrestler. Stevens has been a champion all over the world wrestling under the name Awesome Kong (sometimes Amazing Kong). She also briefly wrestled in WWE as Kharma.
  • The wrestler who trained the actresses for this series, Chavo Guerrero Jr., is the nephew of Armando Guerrero a.k.a. Mando, the trainer for the wrestlers on the original 1980s series.

Luke Cage: Season 2

Genre Action | Crime | Drama

Cast Mike Colter, Justin Swain, Simone Missick, Theo Rossi

Series Premiere June 22nd, 2018 (Netflix)

“When a sabotaged experiment gives him super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive attempting to rebuild his life in Harlem and must soon confront his past and fight a battle for the heart of his city.”

Luke Cage is returning to Netflix with what I assume to be no shortage of bad guys for him to toss around like ragdolls. The popular Netflix exclusive is dropping it's second season June 22nd and it promises to give Luke Cage fans more of what they have grown to love. The cast includes Mike Colter, Justin Swain, Simone Missick, and Theo Rossi. Check out the official trailers for season 2 below!!

Ted Takes Fun Facts, Luke Cage:

  • In the 90's, Quentin Tarantino wanted to make Luke Cage: Hero for Hire into a film, with Laurence Fishburne in the title role, but opted to make Pulp Fiction instead.
  • Luke Cage was never a policeman or military serviceman in the comic book versions. In the Netflix series it is mentioned that he was a former cop and that he served in Marine Force Recon, which is presumably created only for this live-action version of his character.
