Venom: Let There Be Carnage

March 29, 2017

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a 2021 superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Venom, produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel. It is intended to be the second film in the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, and the direct sequel to Venom (2018).

Directed by Andy Serkis from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel, based on a story she wrote with Tom Hardy who stars as Eddie Brock / Venom alongside Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, and Woody Harrelson. In the film, Brock tries to reignite his career in journalism by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady (Harrelson), who becomes the host of an alien symbiote similar to Venom named Carnage.

Venom was intended to be the start of a new shared universe, and plans for a sequel began during production on the first film. Harrelson was cast to make a brief appearance as Kasady at the end of Venom, with the intention of him becoming the villain Carnage in the sequel.

Scream (also informally known as Scream 5) is a 2022 horror slasher that serves as the fifth installment of the Scream franchise. It is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

March 29, 2017

"The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It" reveals a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they'd ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.

The film stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, and Julian Hilliard (The Haunting of Hill House).

Zola

March 29, 2017

“A waitress agrees to accompany an exotic dancer, her put-upon boyfriend, and her mysterious and domineering roommate on a road trip to Florida to seek their fortune at a high-end strip club.”

I am ALL IN on pretty much anything with A24 attached to it, these guys just have an eye for quality that’s for damn sure. They snagged another gem from the Sundance Film Festival and it looks to be an instant cult classic. I mean any time you combine Florida, strip clubs, and a road trip, you are on to something worthwhile. At least in my experience anyway. Oh and Greg from HBO’s Succession in one of the starring roles, yeah that is just icing on the cake for me.

Zola stars Taylour Paige, Riley Keough, Colman Domingo, and Nicholas Braun.

“A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw.”
spiral 1.png

From director Darren Lynn Bousman, the man behind Saw II, III, and IV, Spiral is described as a re-imaging of the Saw franchise. It’s no secret that this franchise has a HUGE following, even though that has dwindled as of late. I personally enjoyed the 2017 film Jigsaw and thought it was a nice conclusion to the franchise. It will be interesting to see where Spiral decides to take things (all-new franchise perhaps?). Check out the official trailers below!!

Black Widow

March 29, 2017

Black Widow is a 2021 superhero film based on the edgy and extremely popular Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it marks the 24th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

From director Cate Shortland (Berlin Syndrome), Black Widow gives us a an in-depth look at the Marvel character with a dark past and troubling upbringing, to say the least. At birth, the Black Widow (aka Natasha Romanova) is given to the KGB, which grooms her to become its ultimate operative. When the U.S.S.R. breaks up, the government tries to kill her as the action moves to present-day New York, where she is a freelance operative. The standalone film will find Romanoff living in the United States 15 years after the fall of the Soviet Union, and take place directly following the events of Captain America: Civil War.

The impressive cast includes Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow alongside Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, William Hurt, Ray Winstone, and Rachel Weisz. Like many films, Black Widow was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, derailing an initial plan for a May 2020 release date and getting delayed 3 times in total. It is the first film to kick off Phase 4 of the MCU.

Black Widow finally premiered on June 29th, 2021 at various events around the world, and is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 9th, in theaters & IMAX as well as streaming through Disney+ with Premier Access (an additional $29.99). Watch the official trailers below.

Ted Takes Fun Facts, Black Widow:

  • This will be Scarlett Johansson's ninth time playing Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, if you count her cameo in Captain Marvel (2019).

  • Scarlett Johansson describes the film as "Its Own Genre" and even named Logan (2017) an Influence along with The Fugitive (1993) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991).

  • It was revealed that the film is set after Captain America: Civil War (2016).

Mortal Kombat

March 29, 2017

“MMA fighter Cole Young seeks out Earth's greatest champions in order to stand against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe.”

The Mortal Kombat trailer we have all been waiting for is finally here, and it looks INTENSE!! I was born in 1984 (yes, I know I’m old), so to say that Mortal Kombat was a big part of my childhood would be an understatement. My friends and I would spend hours mastering the finishing moves, and when the cut scene for a move was triggered, we just watched in pure awe. It was a truly magical time.

The dream was always to have the movie version of the game and in 1995, that is exactly what we got. And to be honest, I really liked it. I mean the soundtrack got me all kinds of fired up, and still does to this day. But it was far from perfect. I mean first of all, it was rated PG-13 (yawnnnnnnnn). So for years now we have been itching for a R-rated movie that could truly embody what Mortal Kombat is, and well, that day is nearly here.

mk 1.JPG

This new Mortal Kombat looks incredible, and has me feeling next-level nostalgic. I will be sitting in the movie theater day 1 for this, and it cannot come soon enough.

Mortal Kombat is set to hit theaters, IMAX, and HBO Max April 23rd. Watch the UNRATED trailer below.
