Space Jam: A New Legacy

Space Jam: A New Legacy is a 2021 live-action/animated sports comedy directed by Malcolm D. Lee, serving as a standalone sequel to Space Jam (1996). From producer Ryan Coogler, the film picks up where the classic 1996 film left off and paves the way for a new generation. NBA star LeBron James, playing a fictionalized version of himself, teams up with the Looney Tunes to win a basketball game against digitized champions to rescue his son from Al-G Rhythm, a rogue AI program.

The cast includes LeBron James, Don Cheadle, Cedric Joe, Sonequa Martin-Green, and a ridiculous amount of cameos from current NBA stars.

Clifford the Big Red Dog

Clifford the Big Red Dog is a 2021 live-action/CGI family adventure comedy directed by Walt Becker. It is based on the children's book series of the same name by Norman Bridwell. When middle-schooler Emily meets a magical animal rescuer who gifts her a little, red puppy, she never anticipated waking up to find a giant ten-foot hound in her small New York City apartment.

The film stars Jack Whitehall, Darby Camp, Tony Hale, Sienna Guillory, Russell Wong, and John Cleese, with David Alan Grier as the voice of Clifford.

Free Guy

From director Shawn Levy (Date Night, The Internship), Free Guy is a 2021 action comedy from a screenplay by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Joe Keery, and Taika Waititi.

Free Guy tells the story of a bank teller who discovers that he's actually an NPC inside a brutal, open world video game. I am a huge fan of Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi, but after the first trailer I wasn’t sure about this movie. Well after watching the most recent trailers, my thoughts have changed and I cannot wait for this!

The Night House

From director David Bruckner, the guy behind horror films V/H/S, Southbound, and The Ritual, The Night House is a 2021 psychological horror thriller, based on an original screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski.

Reeling from the unexpected death of her husband, Beth is left alone in the lakeside home he built for her. She tries as best she can to keep it together – but then nightmares come. Disturbing visions of a presence in the house calling to her, beckoning her with a ghostly allure. Against the advice of her friends, she begins digging into her husband’s belongings, yearning for answers. What she finds are secrets both strange and disturbing – a mystery she’s determined to unravel.

The film stars Rebecca Hall, Sarah Goldberg (Barry, Elementary), Vondie Curtis Hall, Evan Jonigkeit, and Stacy Martin.

Jungle Cruise

From director Jaume Collet-Serra (Non-Stop, Run All Night), Jungle Cruise is a 2021 fantasy adventure film based on Disneyland's theme park ride where a small riverboat takes a group of travelers through a jungle filled with dangerous animals and reptiles, but with a supernatural element.

Produced by Walt Disney Pictures, the film stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Édgar Ramírez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti.

Jungle Cruise is scheduled to be released July 30th in theaters and through Disney+ with Premier Access. Watch the official trailers below.

• The movie is said to be in the vein of The African Queen (1951), and Dwayne Johnson's character is inspired by Indiana Jones.

The Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad is a 2021 superhero film based on the DC Comics team Suicide Squad, and is written and directed by James Gunn. It is a standalone sequel to Suicide Squad (2016), and the tenth film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). It follows Super-Villains Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker and a collection of cons at Belle Reve prison who join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X where they are heavily-armed and dropped off at the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.

The star-studded cast includes Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Peter Capaldi.

David Ayer was set to return as director for a Suicide Squad sequel but he chose to develop a Gotham City Sirens film instead. Gunn was hired to write and direct the film after being temporarily fired by Disney and Marvel Studios as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023). He drew inspiration from war films and John Ostrander's 1980s Suicide Squad comics, and decided to explore new characters in a story separate from the first film's narrative, though some cast members do return from Suicide Squad.

Peacemaker, a spin-off television series starring Cena, is set to debut on HBO Max in January 2022.

The Suicide Squad is set for release in theaters and IMAX on August 6th. It will also be available on HBO Max for 31 days from theatrical release. Watch the official trailers below.

American Underdog

American Underdog is a 2021 biographical sports drama about National Football League quarterback Kurt Warner. Directed by Andrew and Jon Erwin, the film tells the story of NFL MVP and Hall of Fame quarterback, Kurt Warner, who went from stocking shelves at a supermarket to becoming an American Football star.

The cast includes Zachary Levi as Warner, alongside Anna Paquin as his wife Brenda and Dennis Quaid as head coach Dick Vermeil.

American Underdog is scheduled to be released only in theaters on December 25th, courtesy of Lionsgate. Watch the official trailer below.

Nobody

“Sometimes the man you don’t notice is the most dangerous.”

Breaking Bad’s Bob Odenkirk does his best John Wick impression in the crime thriller, Nobody. The film is directed by Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry), and produced by stunt coordinator/director David Leitch, the man who brought us John Wick.

Odenkirk plays Hutch Mansell, an underestimated and overlooked dad and husband, taking life’s indignities on the chin and never pushing back. A nobody. When two thieves break into his suburban home one night, Hutch declines to defend himself or his family, hoping to prevent serious violence.

His wife and teenage son, disappointed in him, begin to see him as less of a man. Soon Hutch is pushed too far, and his dark past changes everything.

Co-stars include Connie Nielsen, RZA, Aleksey Serebryakov, and Christopher Lloyd.

Cry Macho

Cry Macho is an 2021 drama directed and produced by Clint Eastwood as an adaptation of the 1975 novel of the same name by N. Richard Nash. A one-time rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder takes a job to bring a man's young son home and away from his alcoholic mom. On their journey, the horseman finds redemption through teaching the boy what it means to be a good man.

The cast includes Clint Eastwood, Eduardo Minett, Natalia Traven, Dwight Yoakam, Fernanda Urrejola, and Horacio Garcia Rojas.

Cry Macho is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on September 17th, by Warner Bros. Pictures with a simultaneous release on the HBO Max streaming service for 31 days. Watch the official trailer below.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a 2021 superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Venom, produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel. It is intended to be the second film in the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, and the direct sequel to Venom (2018).

Directed by Andy Serkis from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel, based on a story she wrote with Tom Hardy who stars as Eddie Brock / Venom alongside Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, and Woody Harrelson. In the film, Brock tries to reignite his career in journalism by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady (Harrelson), who becomes the host of an alien symbiote similar to Venom named Carnage.

Venom was intended to be the start of a new shared universe, and plans for a sequel began during production on the first film. Harrelson was cast to make a brief appearance as Kasady at the end of Venom, with the intention of him becoming the villain Carnage in the sequel.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage was delayed from an initial October 2020 date due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and will now hit theaters October 1st, 2021. Watch the official trailers below.

The Tomorrow War

Scream

Scream (also informally known as Scream 5) is a 2022 horror slasher that serves as the fifth installment of the Scream franchise. It is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. The film is produced by Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak, with original screenwriter Kevin Williamson serving as an executive producer. 

Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.

Though billed as a relaunch of the franchise, the film is a direct sequel to 2011's Scream 4, and the first in the series not to be directed by Wes Craven, who died in 2015. David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and Roger L. Jackson return to reprise their original roles, while Marley Shelton also reprises her role from the previous film. They are joined by franchise newcomers Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, and Jack Quaid.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

"The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It" reveals a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they'd ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.

The film stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, and Julian Hilliard (The Haunting of Hill House).

Cherry

Hold on to your hat, because the Russo Brothers (Captain America: The Winter Solider, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame) are back in the directors chair with an Apple TV+ exclusive film starring Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland.

Cherry, an R-rated heist thriller, tells the story of an Army medic suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder who becomes a serial bank robber after an addiction to drugs puts him in debt. The film is based on Nico Walker’s (mostly) autobiographical novel, which he wrote while in prison and published in 2018. The film takes viewers through what lead a college student with a bright future to a life of crime.

Co-stars include Ciara Bravo (Wayne), Jack Reynor (Midsommar), and Mark Wahlberg’s nephew, Jeff Wahlberg.

Cherry will hit theaters on February 26th and will be available to stream on Apple TV+ March 12th. Watch the official trailer below.

Nomadland

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard

Candyman

Candyman is a 2021 horror film directed by Nia DaCosta, and written by Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, and DaCosta. The film is a direct sequel to the 1992 film of the same name, and the fourth film in the Candyman film series, based on the short story "The Forbidden" by Clive Barker.

In present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, Anthony and his partner move into a loft in the now gentrified Cabrini. A chance encounter with an old-timer exposes Anthony to the true story behind Candyman. Anxious to use these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, he unknowingly opens a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifying wave of violence.

The film stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Colman Domingo. Vanessa Williams, Tony Todd, and Virginia Madsen also briefly reprise their roles from the original film.

Candyman released is set to hit theaters August 27th, courtesy of Universal Pictures.

Dream Horse

Dream Horse is a 2020 sports comedy-drama directed by Euros Lyn from a screenplay by Neil McKay. The film stars Toni Collette, Damian Lewis, Owen Teale, Joanna Page, Karl Johnson, Steffan Rhodri, Anthony O'Donnell, Nicholas Farrell, and Siân Phillips.

Dream Horse had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24th 2020, and is scheduled for a theatrical release in the United States May 21st, 2021, from Bleecker Street and Warner Bros. Pictures.
