From Scratch

From Scratch is a 2022 drama limited series created by Attica Locke and Tembi Locke for Netflix, inspired by Tembi Locke's memoir From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily and Finding Home. Attica Locke serves as showrunner of the series, with Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Richard Abate, Jermaine Johnson, and Will Rowbotham serving as executive producers.

Amahle "Amy" Wheeler, an American student studying in Italy, meets and falls in love with Lino, a Sicilian chef. When Lino faces health issues and the couple's future is threatened, the two families come together.

The cast includes Zoe Saldaña, Eugenio Mastrandrea, Danielle Deadwyler, Keith David, Kellita Smith, Judith Scott, Lucia Sardo, Paride Benassai, and Roberta Rigano.

Black Adam

Black Adam is a 2022 superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani. Collet-Serra, who had his directorial debut back in 2005 with the horror thriller The House of Wax, recently directed the hit Disney action adventure film Jungle Cruise, also starring Dwayne Johnson. Black Adam is intended to be a spin-off of Shazam! (2019), and the eleventh film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the Egyptian gods -- and imprisoned just as quickly -- Black Adam is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.

The cast includes Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam / Black Adam alongside Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell, Pierce Brosnan, and Mohammed Amer.

Ticket to Paradise

Ticket to Paradise is a 2022 romantic comedy film directed by Ol Parker and written by Parker and Daniel Pipski. The film had its world premiere in Barcelona on September 8, 2022. Stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts also serve as executive producers.

Two divorced parents, David and Georgia Cotton, travel to Bali after learning that their daughter, Lily, is planning to marry a man named Gede, whom she has just met. They decide to work together to sabotage the wedding to prevent Lily from making the same mistake they made twenty-five years ago.

The cast includes George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Kaitlyn Dever, Maxime Bouttier, Billie Lourd, and Sean Lynch.

Raymond & Ray

Raymond & Ray is a 2022 comedy-drama film written and directed by Rodrigo García (Last Days in the Desert, In Treatment) and starring Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting, Doctor Sleep) and Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Boyhood) as Raymond and Ray respectively. It is produced by the two-time Academy Award-winning director Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Roma) and also stars Maribel Verdú (Pan’s Labyrinth) and Sophie Okonedo (Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls) in supporting roles.

The film follows half-brothers Raymond and Ray, who reunite when their estranged father dies and discover that his final wish was for them to dig his grave. Together, they process who they’ve become as men, both because of their father and in spite of him.

It had its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2022. It is scheduled to be released in limited theaters on October 14, 2022, before releasing on Apple TV+ on October 21. Watch the official trailer below.

The Banshees of Inisherin

The Banshees of Inisherin is an upcoming drama film written and directed by Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri). It sees McDonagh reunite with his In Bruges stars Colin Farrell (The Batman, The Lobster) and Brendan Gleeson (Harry Potter films series, Paddington 2), and it also stars Kerry Condon (Rome, Better Call Saul) and Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, Eternals) in supporting roles.

The film follows two lifelong friends who find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship, which leads to alarming consequences for both of them.

It is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 4, 2022, and is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 21, 2022, by Searchlight Pictures. Watch the official trailer below.

The Peripheral

The Peripheral is a 2022 science fiction streaming television series executive produced and created by Scott Smith. Produced by Amazon, it is based on the 2014 book of the same name written by William Gibson. Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy serve as executive producers, along with Athena Wickham, Steve Hoban, and Vincenzo Natali.

Set in the future when technology has subtly altered society, a woman discovers a secret connection to an alternate reality as well as a dark future of her own.

The cast includes Chloë Grace Moretz, Jack Reynor, Gary Carr, Eli Goree, Charlotte Riley, and JJ Feild.

Aftersun

Aftersun is a 2022 drama film written and directed by Charlotte Wells, starring Paul Mescal (The Lost Daughter, Normal People), Frankie Corio, and Celia Rowlson-Hall (Vox Lux).

The film follows Sophie (Corio), who reflects on the shared joy and private melancholy of a holiday she took with her father (Mescal) twenty years earlier. Memories real and imagined fill the gaps between miniDV footage as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn’t.

It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 21, 2022, and is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 21, 2022, by A24 and in the United Kingdom on November 18, 2022, by Mubi. Watch the official trailer below.

Halloween Ends

Halloween Ends is a 2022 horror slasher film directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier, the creative team between the 2018 franchise re-launch. The film is based on characters created by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. It is a sequel to 2021's Halloween Kills and the thirteenth installment of the Halloween film franchise. The film is produced by Jason Blum through his Blumhouse Productions banner, alongside Rough House Productions, Miramax and Trancas International Pictures.

Four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie, after allowing the specter of Michael to determine and drive her reality for decades, has decided to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham, is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all.

This is Laurie Strode’s last stand. After 45 years, the most acclaimed, revered horror franchise in film history reaches its epic, terrifying conclusion as Laurie Strode faces off for the last time against the embodiment of evil, Michael Myers, in a final confrontation unlike any captured on-screen before. Only one of them will survive.

The Watcher

The Watcher is a 2022 Netflix original limited series created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. Murphy, the Emmy-award winning writer and co-creator if the hit horror series American Horror Story, teams up with writing partner Brennan yet again after the recently released hit series, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (preview and trailer here). The series is inspired by the true story of the infamous “Watcher” house in New Jersey.

After the Brannock family moves into what was supposed to be their suburban dream home, it quickly becomes a living hell. Ominous letters from someone calling themselves “The Watcher” are just the beginning as the neighborhood’s sinister secrets come spilling out.

The cast includes Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Jennifer Coolidge, Mia Farrow, Noma Dumezweni, and Joe Mantello.

Shantaram

Shantaram is a 2022 drama thriller television series created by Eric Warren Singer and Steve Lightfoot, based on the novel of the same name by Gregory David Roberts. The story drew inspiration from Roberts' own life which is about a bank robber from Australia who flees the country to India.

A heroin addict incarcerated for a robbery escapes prison and reinvents himself as a doctor in the slums of Bombay; his ties to the crime underworld there lead him to Afghanistan, where he partners with a mob boss locked in a battle with Russian criminals.

The cast includes Charlie Hunnam, Antonia Desplat, Elektra Kilbey, Alexander Siddig, David Field, and Sujaya Dasgupta.

Mr. Harrigan's Phone

Mr. Harrigan's Phone is a 2022 teen horror drama film written and directed by John Lee Hancock, the man behind The Blind Side (2009), and the HBO original movie The Little Things (2021). It is based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King from the collection ‘If It Bleeds’.

When Mr. Harrigan dies, Craig, the teen who befriended and did odd jobs for him, puts his smart phone in his pocket before burial. When the lonely youth sends his dead friend a message, he is shocked to get a return text.

The cast includes Donald Sutherland, Jaeden Martell, Joe Tippett, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a 2022 period-mystery comedy film directed, produced and written by David O. Russell. Filmed in Los Angeles from January to March 2021, it marks Russell's first film since 2015's Joy.

Set in the '30s, it follows three friends who witness a murder, become suspects themselves, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history.

The cast includes Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington in lead roles, with a stacked supporting cast consisting of Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldaña, Mike Myers, Michael Shannon, Timothy Olyphant, Andrea Riseborough, Taylor Swift, Matthias Schoenaerts, Alessandro Nivola, Rami Malek, and Robert De Niro.

Significant Other

Significant Other is a 2022 science fiction horror thriller written and directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, who previously teamed up for the underrated 2019 horror thriller Villans. The film will have its World Premiere at the 2022 New York Comic Con on October 6th.

A young couple take a remote backpacking trip through the Pacific Northwest, but things take a dark turn when they realize they may not be alone.

The cast includes Maika Monroe (It Follows, The Guest, Watcher), Jake Lacy, Loudon McCleery, and Teal Sherer.

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry is a 2022 coming-of-age drama from director Hans Conosa, based on the New York Times best-selling novel from author Gabrielle Zevin. Conosa and Zevin have been working together for two decades, collaborating on the romantic comedy Conversations with Other Women (2005), as well as a few other films adapted from novels written by Zevin.

A.J. Fikry’s life is not turning out as he expected and hits emotional and financial rock bottom. He lives alone, his bookstore is in a sales slump, and his most valuable possession, a book of poems, has been stolen. But when a mysterious package appears, he soon discovers he has a second chance at life, and love.

The full cast includes Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory), Lucy Hale (Truth or Dare), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men, Good Girls), Blaire Brown (The Big Leap), Lauren Stamile (Burn Notice), David Arquette (Scream), and Scott Foley (Scandal).

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is a 2022 live-action animated musical comedy directed by Will Speck and Josh Gordon, from a screenplay by William Davies. It is an adaptation of the children's story of the same name and its prequel The House on East 88th Street by Bernard Waber.

When the Primm family moves to New York City, their young son, Josh, struggles to adapt to his new school and friends. All of that changes when he discovers Lyle, a singing crocodile that loves baths, caviar and great music. The two become fast friends, but when evil neighbor Mr. Grumps threatens Lyle's existence, the Primms must band together to show the world that family can come from the most unexpected places.

The cast includes Shawn Mendes, Javier Bardem, Constance Wu, Winslow Fegley, Scoot McNairy, and Brett Gelman.

The Midnight Club

The Midnight Club is a 2022 horror mystery thriller series from creators Mike Flanagan and Leah Fong, with Flanagan serving as showrunner and executive producer along with Trevor Macy. The series is an adaptation of the 1994 novel of the same name by Christopher Pike. Flanagan is building quite the horror resume including The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, as well a films like Oculus, Hush, and Doctor Sleep, to name a few.

At a hospice for terminally ill young adults, eight patients come together every night at midnight to tell each other stories – and make a pact that the next of them to die will give the group a sign from the beyond.

The cast includes Iman Benson, Adia, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Aya Furukawa, Annarah Shephard, William Chris Sumpter, Sauriyan Sapkota, Heather Langenkamp, Zach Gilford, Matt Biedel, and Samantha Sloyan.

Triangle of Sadness

Triangle of Sadness is a 2022 internationally co-produced satirical dark comedy film written and directed by Ruben Östlund (Force Majeure, The Square), and marks his English-language feature film debut. It stars Harris Dickinson (The King’s Man), Charlbi Dean (Black Lightning), Dolly de Leon (Verdict), Zlatko Burić (The Pusher trilogy), Iris Berben (Eddie the Eagle), Vicki Berlin, Henrik Dorsin, Jean-Christophe Folly, Amanda Walker, Oliver Ford Davies, (Game of Thrones) Sunnyi Melles, and Woody Harrelson (Cheers, No Country for Old Men). Production of the film was paused on two occasions in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The film follows a fashion model celebrity couple, Carl (Dickinson) and Yaya (Dean), who are invited to a luxury cruise for the uber-rich, run by a Marxist captain (Harrelson), only for things to go wrong.

The film premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in May 2022, where it received an eight-minute standing ovation and won the Palme d'Or. It is scheduled to be released in France on September 28, 2022, in the United States and Sweden on October 7, in Germany on October 13, and in the United Kingdom on October 28. Luckiest Girl Alive is a 2022 mystery thriller film directed by Mike Barker from a screenplay by Jessica Knoll, based on her novel of the same name.

Ani FaNelli (Mila Kunis), a sharp-tongued New Yorker appears to have it all: a sought-after position at a glossy magazine, a killer wardrobe and a dream Nantucket wedding on the horizon. But when the director of a crime documentary invites her to tell her side of the shocking incident that took place when she was a teenager at the prestigious Brentley School, Ani is forced to confront a dark truth that threatens to unravel her meticulously crafted life.

Hellraiser

Hellraiser is a 2022 supernatural horror film directed by David Bruckner, with a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, from a screen story they co-wrote with David S. Goyer. The film is meant to be a reimagining of the iconic 1986 novel The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker, which served as the basis for Barker's 1987 film Hellraiser. It is an official reboot of the franchise and the eleventh installment overall. The film was green-lit in early 2019, mostly thanks to the resurgent success of the Halloween franchise.

A young woman must confront the sadistic, supernatural forces behind an enigmatic puzzlebox responsible for her brother's disappearance.

The cast includes Odessa A’zion (“Fam,” “Grand Army”), Jamie Clayton (“The L Word: Generation Q,” “Sense8”), Adam Faison (“Everything’s Gonna Be Okay,” “Yes Day”), Drew Starkey (“Outer Banks,” “The Devil All the Time”), Brandon Flynn (“Ratched,” “13 Reasons Why”), Aoife Hinds (“The Long Call,” “Normal People”), Jason Liles (“Stereoscope,” “Rampage”), Yinka Olorunnife (“The Transporter”), Selina Lo (“Boss Level,” “Q8 Unleashed”), Zachary Hing (“Halo”), Kit Clarke (“Leonardo”), with Goran Visnjic (“The Boys,” “Timeless”) and Hiam Abbass (“Succession,” “Blade Runner 2049”).

Hellraiser is set to have its world premiere at Beyond Fest in Santa Monica, California on October 4th, 2022. The film is scheduled to be released by Disney Platform Distribution via streaming exclusively on Hulu as a Hulu original film on October 7th. Watch the official trailer below.
