Terrifier 2

Terrifier 2 is a 2022 horror slasher film written, directed, and produced by Damien Leone. It is a sequel to the instant cult classic for horror fans, Terrifier (2016). It will have its world premiere at the FrightFest on August 29th, 2022.

After being resurrected by a sinister entity, Art the Clown returns to the timid town of Miles County where he targets a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween night.

The cast includes David Howard Thornton and Samantha Scaffidi, who portrayed Art the Clown and Victoria Heyes in the first film, and also stars Lauren LaVera, Elliot Fullam, Sarah Voigt, Kailey Hyman, and Casey Harnett.

The Visitor

The Visitor is a 2022 psychological horror thriller directed by Justin P. Lange, from a screenplay by Simon Boyes and Adam Mason.

When Robert and his wife Maia move to her childhood home, he discovers an old portrait of his likeness in the attic - a man referred to only as ‘The Visitor’. Soon he finds himself descending down a frightening rabbit hole in an attempt to discover the true identity of his mysterious doppelgänger, only to realize that every family has its own terrifying secrets.

The cast Includes Finn Jones, Jessica McNamee, Dane Rhodes, Donna Biscoe, and Victoria Harris.

Catherine Called Birdy

Catherine Called Birdy is a 2022 medieval comedy film written and directed by Lena Dunham, based on the 1994 novel of the same name by Karen Cushman. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2022.

The year? 1290. In the Medieval English village of Stonebridge, Lady Catherine (known as Birdy) is the youngest child of Lord Rollo and the Lady Aislinn. Her playground is Stonebridge Manor, a house that, like the family, has seen better days. Financially destitute and utterly greedy, Rollo sees his daughter as his path out of financial ruin by marrying her off to a wealthy man for money and land. But Birdy, like all the great teen heroines, is spirited, clever and adventurous – and ready to put off any suitor that comes calling in increasingly ingenious ways. Her imagination, defiance and deep belief in her own right to independence put her on a collision course with her parents. When the most vile suitor of all arrives, they are presented with the ultimate test of love for their daughter.

The cast includes Bella Ramsey, Andrew Scott, Billie Piper, Joe Alwyn, Dean-Charles Chapman, Ralph Ineson, and Russell Brand.

Smile

Smile is a 2022 psychological horror film written and directed by Parker Finn in his feature film debut, based on his 2020 short film Laura Hasn't Slept which was awarded the Jury Award for Midnight Short at the 2020 SXSW film festival.

After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can't explain. As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.

The film stars Sosie Bacon (Mare of Easttown, As We See It), Jessie T. Usher, Kyle Gallner, Robin Weigert, Caitlin Stasey, Kal Penn, and Rob Morgan.

Bros

Bros is a 2022 romantic comedy film directed by Nicholas Stoller from a screenplay he co-wrote with Billy Eichner, who also stars and executive produces. Stoller and Judd Apatow are producers on the film. Bros had its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2022.

The film also stars Bowen Yang, Harvey Fierstein, Luke Macfarlane, Ts Madison, Monica Raymund, Guillermo Díaz, Guy Branum, Amanda Bearse, and Jim Rash.

Bobby Lieber, an "out and proud but also scared and self-doubting" New York museum curator, is hired to write a romantic comedy about a gay couple. Along the way, he meets—and eventually falls in love with—Aaron, a "macho" lawyer.

The Greatest Beer Run Ever

The Greatest Beer Run Ever is a 2022 biographical action comedy film directed by Peter Farrelly, based on the book of the same name by Joanna Molloy and John "Chickie" Donohue. Farrelly, an absolute legend in the film industry who most recently directed the award-winning film Green Book (2018), began his career in 1994 with the comedy classic Dumb and Dumber. The film will have its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022.

In 1967, John Donohue was a 26-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran working as a merchant seaman when he was challenged one night in a New York City bar. The men gathered had lost family and friends in the ongoing war in Vietnam. One friend proposed an idea many might deem preposterous: one of them should sneak into Vietnam, track down their buddies in combat, and give each of them messages of support from back home, maybe some laughs, and beer.

The film stars Zac Efron, Russell Crowe, Bill Murray, Kyle Allen, Jake Picking, Will Ropp, and Archie Renaux.

God's Creatures

God’s Creatures is a 2022 psychological drama film directed by Saela Davis & Anna Rose Holmer. Produced by Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly, it stars Emily Watson (Punch-Drunk Love), Paul Mescal (Normal People), and Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale).

The film takes place in a windswept fishing village and follows a mother (Watson) who is torn between protecting her beloved son (Mescal) and her own sense of right and wrong. A lie she tells for him rips apart their family and close-knit community.

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2022, and is scheduled to release in theaters on September 30, 2022, courtesy of A24. Watch the official trailer below.

My Best Friend's Exorcism is a 2022 horror comedy directed by Damon Thomas (Killing Eve, Penny Dreadful), from a screenplay by Jenna Lamia and from the producers of other horror comedies Freaky and Happy Death Day. The film is based on the horror novel of the same name from author Grady Hendrix.

The year is 1988. High school sophomores Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fourth grade. But after an evening of skinny-dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen begins to act... different. She's moody. She's irritable. And bizarre incidents keep happening whenever she's nearby. Abby's investigation leads her to some startling discoveries--and by the time their story reaches its terrifying conclusion, the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?

Hocus Pocus 2

Hocus Pocus 2 is a 2022 fantasy comedy horror film directed by Anne Fletcher, written by Jen D'Angelo and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It is a sequel to the 1993 cult classic film Hocus Pocus.

It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve.

The cast includes Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Doug Jones reprising their roles; Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, and Sam Richardson join the cast in new roles.

Blonde

Blonde is a 2022 biographical drama film directed by Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Killing Them Softly) who also wrote the screenplay, and is based on the bestselling novel by Joyce Carol Oates.

Blurring the lines of fact and fiction while boldly reimagining the complicated life of icon Marilyn Monroe, the film artfully explores the tension between her public and private life.

The cast includes Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049, Knives Out). Adrien Brody (The Pianist), Bobby Cannavale (Ant-Man), Xavier Samuel (The Twilight Sage: Eclipse), and Julianne Nicholson (Mare of Easttown).

Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tracey Landon, Brad Pitt, and Scott Robertson serve as producers on the film, which, after a lengthy period of development that began in 2010, began production in Los Angeles in August 2019. Production wrapped in July 2021, following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Blonde is set to debut on Netflix September 23rd. It is rated NC-17 for its graphic sexual content and will be the first of its kind to be released through a streaming service. Watch the official trailers below.

Lou

Lou is a 2022 action thriller film directed by Anna Foerster, from a screenplay by Maggie Cohn and Jack Stanley. Foerster is far from a big name in the directing world, but she is listed as the director of the sequel to the 2011 sci-fi thriller Source Code, which was recently announced.

A storm rages. A young girl is kidnapped. Her mother (Jurnee Smollett) teams up with the mysterious woman next door (Allison Janney) to pursue the kidnapper – a journey that tests their limits and exposes shocking secrets from their pasts.

The full cast includes Allison Janney, Jurnee Smollett, Andres Collantes, Daniel Bernhardt, Greyston Holt, Jaycie Dotin, Logan Marshall-Green, Marci T. House, Matt Craven, Ridely Asha Bateman, RJ Fetherstonhaugh, Roman Mitichyan, and Toby Levins.

Don't Worry Darling

Don't Worry Darling is a 2022 psychological thriller film directed by Olivia Wilde. The screenplay was written by Katie Silberman, based on a story by Carey van Dyke, Shane Van Dyke, and Silberman. The film is produced by New Line Cinema and Vertigo Entertainment.

Alice and Jack are lucky to be living in Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. Life is perfect, with every resident's needs met by the company. All they ask in return is unquestioning commitment to the Victory cause. But when cracks in their idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can't help questioning what they're doing in Victory, and why. Just how much is Alice willing to lose to expose what's really going on in paradise?

Dahmer - Monster: the Jeffrey Dahmer Story

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is a 2022 crime drama docuseries from creators Ian Brennan and Ryan Murphy which chronicles the life of notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Murphy, the Emmy-award winning writer and co-creator if the hit horror series American Horror Story, teams up with actor Evan Peters once again for what is sure to be an intense and memorable limited series.

Between 1978 and 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer (played by Evan Peters) gruesomely took the lives of seventeen innocent victims. The series exposes these unconscionable crimes, centered around the underserved victims and their communities impacted by the systemic racism and institutional failures of the police that allowed one of America’s most notorious serial killers to continue his murderous spree in plain sight for over a decade.

The full cast includes Evan Peters, Niecy Nash, Richard Jenkins, Molly Ringwald, Michael Learned, Penelope Ann Miller, and Dyllón Burnside.

On the Come Up is a 2022 coming-of-age drama film from actress turned director Sanaa Lathan, in her directorial debut. The film is based on the bestselling novel of the same name from Angie Thomas, from a screenplay by Kaye Oyegun. The film is set in the same universe (Garden Heights) as Thomas' first book, The Hate U Give.

Bri, a 16-year-old gifted rapper, attempts to take the battle rap scene by storm in order to lift up her family and do right by the legacy of her father—a local hip hop legend whose career was cut short by gang violence. But when her first hit song goes viral for all the wrong reasons, she finds herself torn between the authenticity that got her this far and the false persona that the industry wants to impose upon her.

The cast includes Jamila C. Gray, Sanaa Lathan, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Lil Yachty, Mike Epps, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Justin Martin, Titus Makin, Michael Cooper Jr., GaTa, and Cliff “Method Man” Smith.

Reboot

Reboot is an American comedy series created by Steven Levitan (co-creator of Modern Family). The series stars Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy, Krista Marie Yu, Judy Greer, and Paul Reiser.

Reboot is about the dysfunctional cast of an early 2000s hit sitcom, Step Right Up, who must face their unresolved issues and navigate social media cancel culture when a young writer pitches a reboot of their show.

Andor

Andor is an upcoming American television series created by Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton, Rogue One) for the streaming service Disney+. A prequel to the Star Wars spin-off film Rogue One (2016), the series follows thief-turned-Rebel spy Cassian Andor during the five years before the events of the film.

Diego Luna (Rogue One, Narcos: Mexico) executive produces and reprises his Rogue One role as Cassian Andor. Genevieve O'Reilly (The Legend of Tarzan), Stellan Skarsgård (Dune: Part One), Adria Arjona (6 Underground), Denise Gough (Robin Hood), Kyle Soller (Anna Karenina), and Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter film series) also star.

Lucasfilm announced a series focused on Andor in November 2018, with Luna attached and Stephen Schiff (The Americans) hired as showrunner. Schiff was replaced by Rogue One co-writer Gilroy as creator and showrunner in April 2020. Filming began at the end of November 2020, with Gilroy unable to direct as planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming took place at Pinewood Studios in London, and on location around the United Kingdom, and wrapped by September 2021.

The first 12-episode season of Andor will premiere on Disney+ on September 21, 2022, with its first three episodes, while the rest of the episodes will release weekly until November 23. A second 12-episode season is in development, which will conclude the series and lead into the events of Rogue One. Watch the official trailer below.

Meet Cute is a 2022 romantic comedy film directed by Alex Lehmann, from a screenplay by Noga Pnueli. Lehmann is best known for for the romantic drama Blue Jay (2016), as well as well as the 2019 comedy drama Paddleton.

When Sheila (Kaley Cuoco) and Gary (Pete Davidson) meet, it’s love at first sight - until we realize their magical date wasn’t fate at all. Sheila’s got a time machine, and they've been falling in love over and over again. But when the perfect night is never quite enough, Sheila travels to Gary’s past to change him into the perfect man.

The Woman King

The Woman King is an upcoming 2022 American historical epic film directed by Gina Prince-Blythewood (Love & Basketball, The Old Guard) and written by Dana Stevens (Safe Haven, Fatherhood) from a story conceived by Maria Bello (an actress who has starred in films such as Prisoners and Grown Ups) and Stevens.

The film, which is based on a true story, focuses on General Nanisca of the Dahomey Amazons and Nawi, an ambitious recruit. It depicts how they "fought enemies who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they have lived for.”

It stars Viola Davis (Fences, The Suicide Squad), who also produced the film alongside Bello, in the lead role as General Nanisca, with Thuso Mbedu (The Underground Railroad), Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), Sheila Atim (The Underground Railroad, Bruised), Hero Fiennes Tiffin (After film series), and John Boyega (Attack the Block, Star Wars sequel trilogy) in supporting roles.

The film is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022 and will be theatrically released in the United States on September 16, 2022, by Sony Pictures Releasing. Watch the official trailer below.

Pearl

Pearl is an upcoming 2022 American slasher film serving as a prequel to X (see our full review here), a film that was released earlier this year. The film is directed by Ti West, co-written by West and Mia Goth, who reprises her role as the titular character, and co-stars David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, Matthew Sutherland, and Emma Jenkins-Purro.

Pearl is a joint-venture production of A24 and Little Lamb.

Pearl will have its world premiere at the 79th Venice International Film Festival in September 2022, and is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on September 16, 2022, by A24.

See How They Run is a 2022 mystery comedy film directed by Tom George, written by Mark Chappell, and produced by Damian Jones and Gina Carter.
