The Pigeon Tunnel

The Pigeon Tunnel is a 2023 British documentary film directed by Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line, The Fog of War). It follows the life and career of John le Carré.

The film had its world premiere at the 50th Telluride Film Festival on September 1, 2023. It also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2023. It was released on October 20, 2023, on Apple TV+. Watch the official trailer now.

Bodies

Bodies is an upcoming British crime thriller limited series created for Netflix by Paul Tomalin, based on the DC Vertigo comic and graphic novel of the same name written by Si Spencer and illustrated by Dean Ormston, Tula Lotay, Meghan Hetrick, and Phil Winslade.

Four London detectives, in four different time periods, find themselves investigating the same murder.

The series will consist of eight episodes and is set to premiere on Netflix on October 19, 2023. Watch the official trailer below.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is a 2023 concert film documenting the Eras Tour, a 2023–2024 concert tour by singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Directed by Sam Wrench, produced by Swift, and distributed by AMC Theatres.

After negotiations with the major film studios fell through, Swift struck an unprecedented distribution agreement directly with AMC, who then negotiated with Cinemark for exhibition. Filming occurred in August 2023 at three shows at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and SAG-AFTRA permitted production to proceed amidst its 2023 strike. Swift announced The Eras Tour later that month, catching studios and exhibitors off guard and causing several films that had been set for release on October 13th to move their release dates. The film was met with significant ticket demand, amassing a record $37 million in its first day of pre-sales in the U.S.

The Eras Tour is the sixth headlining concert tour by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. It began in Glendale, Arizona, on March 17, 2023, and is set to conclude in 2024. The show spans over three hours, with a set list of 44 songs divided into 10 distinct acts that conceptually portray Swift's ten studio albums. The tour was a commercial success and received critical acclaim. It became a cultural and economic phenomenon, bolstered by a globally unprecedented ticket demand and fan frenzy.

The Fall of the House of Usher

The Fall of the House of Usher is a 2023 gothic horror drama miniseries created by Mike Flanagan, the man behind the hit horror series The Haunting of Hill House, as well as several films including Oculus, Hush, and Doctor Sleep. The series is loosely based on the short story of the same name and other works by Edgar Allan Poe.

Ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth.

The cast includes Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly, Samantha, Sloyan, T'Nia Miller, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Zach Gilford, Willa Fitzgerald, Katie Parker, Malcolm Goodwin, Michael Trucco, Henry Thomas, and Mark Hamill.

Lessons in Chemistry

Lessons in Chemistry is a 2023 American drama television miniseries developed by Lee Eisenberg based on the novel of the same name by Bonnie Garmus. The series stars Brie Larson (Room, Captain Marvel), Lewis Pullman (Bad Times at the El Royale, Top Gun: Maverick), and Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away with Murder).

In the 1950s, Elizabeth Zott’s (Larson) dream of being a scientist is challenged by a society that says women belong in the domestic sphere. She accepts a job on a TV cooking show and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives way more than recipes.

Anatomy of a Fall

Anatomy of a Fall (French: Anatomie d'une chute) is a 2023 French thriller film directed by Justine Triet from a screenplay co-written by Triet and Arthur Harari. It stars Sandra Hüller as a writer trying to prove her innocence in her husband's death.

Anatomy of a Fall had its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 21, 2023, where it competed for the Queer Palm, and won the Palme d'Or and the Palm Dog Award. It is currently set for a limited theatrical release in the United States on October 13, 2023, courtesy of Neon. Watch the official trailer below.

The Burial

The Burial is an upcoming American legal drama film directed by Maggie Betts and written by Betts and Doug Wright. It is based on the true story of lawyer Willie E. Gary and his client Jeremiah Joseph O'Keefe's lawsuit against the Loewen funeral company, as documented in the 1999 New Yorker article of the same name by Jonathan Harr. It stars Jamie Foxx as Gary, Tommy Lee Jones as O'Keefe, Jurnee Smollett, Mamoudou Athie, and Bill Camp.

It is scheduled to premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2023, and is scheduled to be released by Amazon Studios in a limited release on October 6, 2023, prior to streaming via Prime Video on October 13, 2023. Watch the official trailer below.

Fair Play

Fair Play is a 2023 American erotic thriller film written and directed by Chloe Domont, in her feature directorial debut. It stars Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton) and Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story, Oppenheimer) as a young couple whose relationship starts to unravel following an unexpected promotion at a cutthroat hedge fund firm. Appearing in supporting roles are Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes, The World’s End) and Rich Sommer (The Devil Wears Prada, Mad Men).

Fair Play premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival on January 20, 2023. It is set to be released in limited theaters on September 29, 2023, followed by a Netflix release on October 13, 2023. Watch the official trailer below.

The Exorcist: Believer

The Exorcist: Believer is a 2023 supernatural horror thriller directed by David Gordon Green, from a screenplay by Green and Peter Sattler (Camp X-Ray), from a story by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), Danny McBride (Halloween trilogy) and David Gordon Green, based on characters created by William Peter Blatty. The film is produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse, and by David Robinson and James G. Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment. For the first time since the 1973 film, Oscar® winner Ellen Burstyn returns to her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, a woman who was forever changed by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before.

When The Exorcist, based on the best-selling book by William Peter Blatty, was released 50 years ago this Fall, the horror genre would never be the same. The film demolished office records while earning 10 Academy Award® nominations, and most importantly becoming the first horror film ever nominated for Best Picture.

Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar® nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own. Loki: Season 2

The second season of the American television series Loki, based on Marvel Comics featuring the character of the same name, sees Loki working with Mobius M. Mobius, Hunter B-15, and other members of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) to navigate the multiverse in order to find Sylvie, Ravonna Renslayer, and Miss Minutes. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. The season is produced by Marvel Studios, with Eric Martin serving as head writer and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead leading the directing team.

Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Loki from the film series, starring alongside Sophia Di Martino (Sylvie), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Renslayer), Wunmi Mosaku (Hunter B-15), Eugene Cordero, Tara Strong (Miss Minutes), Neil Ellice, Jonathan Majors, and Owen Wilson (Mobius) reprising their roles from the first season, alongside Rafael Casal, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, and Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once). Development on a second season had begun by November 2020 and was confirmed in July 2021, with Martin, Benson, and Moorhead all hired by late February 2022. Filming began in June 2022 at Pinewood Studios and concluded in October. Dan DeLeeuw and Kasra Farahani were revealed as additional directors for the season in June 2023.

The second season is scheduled to debut on Disney+ on October 6, 2023, and will consist of six episodes. It will be part of Phase Five of the MCU. Watch the official trailer below.

The Royal Hotel

The Royal Hotel is a 2023 drama thriller directed by Kitty Green (The Assistant, Servant), from a screenplay she co-wrote with Oscar Redding. The film is based on the 2016 documentary Hotel Coolgardie.

Americans Hanna (Julia Garner) and Liv (Jessica Henwick) are best friends backpacking in Australia. After they run out of money, Liv, looking for an adventure, convinces Hanna to take a temporary live-in job behind the bar of a pub called 'The Roval Hotel' in a remote Outback mining town. Bar owner Billy and a host of locals give the girls a riotous introduction to Down Under drinking culture but soon Hanna and Liv find themselves trapped in an unnerving situation that grows rapidly out of their control.

Starring Julia Garner, Jessica Henwick, Toby Wallace, Hugo Weaving, Ursula Yovich, Daniel Henshall, James Frecheville, Herbert Nordrum

Foe

Foe is a 2023 science fiction psychological thriller film directed by Garth Davis (Lion), from a screenplay he co-wrote with Iain Reid, based on Reid's 2018 novel of the same name. The film is scheduled to premiere at the 2023 New York Film Festival.

The lives of a married couple are turned upside down when a stranger arrives at their farm and informs the husband he will be sent to a large space station, and his wife will be left in the company of someone else.

The cast includes Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal, Aaron Pierre, and LaKeith Stanfield.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is a 2023 supernatural horror film directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer, who co-wrote it with Jeff Buhler. It serves as a prequel to Pet Sematary (2019), which in turn was based on the 1983 novel of the same name by Stephen King. After the commercial success of Pet Sematary in 2019, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura had plans for a prequel explaining the mythology and universe of the film. Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is scheduled to premiere at the Fantastic Fest in September 2023.

In 1969, a young Jud Crandall is set to leave his hometown of Ludlow, Maine in search of his life’s purpose. Before he makes it out, however, Jud and his childhood friends encounter an ancient evil that has gripped Ludlow since its founding.

The cast includes Jackson White, Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, Henry Thomas, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LaBlanc, Samantha Mathis, Pam Grier. and David Duchovny.

Totally Killer

Totally Killer is a 2023 slasher comedy horror film directed by Nahnatchka Khan from a screenplay by David Matalon, Sasha Perl-Raver and Jen D'Angelo, and a story by Matalon and Perl-Raver. It is produced by Jason Blum, under his Blumhouse Television banner, and Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath under their Divide/Conquer banner.

After Jamie's mother is murdered by the Sweet Sixteen Killer on Halloween, she travels back in time to 1987 where she must stop the young would-be-killer and get back to her timeline before she's trapped in the past forever.

The cast includes Kiernan Shipka, Olivia Holt, Julie Bowen, and Randall Park.

She Came to Me

She Came to Me is a 2023 American romantic comedy film written and directed by Rebecca Miller, and starring Peter Dinklage, Marisa Tomei, Joanna Kulig, Brian d'Arcy James, Anne Hathaway, Harlow Jane, and Evan Ellison.

Composer Steven Lauddem (Dinklage) is creatively blocked and unable to finish the score for his big comeback opera. At the behest of his wife Patricia (Hathaway), formerly his therapist, he sets out in search of inspiration. What he discovers is much more than he bargained for, or imagined.

It had its world premiere at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival on February 16, 2023, and is scheduled to be released on October 6th, 2023, by Vertical Entertainment. Watch the official trailer below.

The Creator

The Creator is a 2023 science fiction action thriller film directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) from a screenplay written by Edwards and Chris Weitz (American Pie, About a Boy), and a story from Edwards. The film stars John David Washington (Tenet, BlacKkKlansman), Gemma Chan (Eternals, Don’t Worry Darling), Ken Watanabe (Inception, Batman Begins), Sturgill Simpson (The Dead Don’t Die, The Hunt), Madeleine Yuna Voyles, and Allison Janney (10 Things I Hate About You, I, Tonya).

Amid a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua (Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife, is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war—and humankind itself.

Dumb Money

Dumb Money is a 2023 biographical comedy-drama film directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella), from a script by Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo, based on the book The Antisocial Network: The GameStop Short Squeeze and the Ragtag Group of Amateur Traders That Brought Wall Street to Its Knees by Ben Mezrich. The film chronicles the GameStop short squeeze from January 2021. Teddy Schwarzman, Aaron Ryder, and Gillespie served as producers for the project.

The talented cast includes Paul Dano (The Batman, Little Miss Sunshine), Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Infinity War), Seth Rogen (Superbad, This Is the End), and Pete Davidson (The King of Staten Island, Bodies Bodies Bodies).

Dumb Money is set to debut in limited theaters on September 22nd, before its wide release on September 29th courtesy of Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Releasing.

Saw X

Saw X is a 2023 horror film directed by Kevin Greutert, from a screenplay by Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. It is the tenth installment in the Saw franchise, and are the events take place between the original Saw and Saw II.

Hoping for a miraculous cure, John Kramer travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure, only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer uses deranged and ingenious traps to turn the tables on the con artists.

The cast includes Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Michael Beach, and Renata Vaca.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar is a 2023 fantasy short film written, co-produced and directed by Wes Anderson, based on the 1977 short story "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar" by Roald Dahl. It is the second film adaptation of a Dahl work directed by Anderson, the first being the Anderson film Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009).

The film premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on September 1st, 2023. It is the first of a four-part series of shorts adapted from Dahl's short stories, including "The Swan", "The Ratcatcher" and "Poison". Principal photography took place in London in January 2022. Robert Yeoman, who worked with Anderson on several previous projects including the recently released Asteroid City (our full review here), serves as cinematographer.

A rich man learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes, then sets out to master the skill in order to cheat at gambling.

The cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch as Henry Sugar, and also stars Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, Rupert Friend, and Richard Ayoade.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar is set to debut in limited theaters on September 20th, before a streaming release on Netflix September 27th. Watch the official trailer below.

PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie

PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie is a 2023 computer-animated superhero comedy film directed by Cal Brunker, who co-wrote the screenplay with Bob Barlen from a story by Brunker, Barlen, and Shane Morris. Based on the television series PAW Patrol created by Keith Chapman, it is the sequel to PAW Patrol: The Movie (2021). The film features elements from the Mighty Pups sub-theme of the series.

When a magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City, it gives the PAW Patrol pups superpowers, transforming them into The MIGHTY PUPS! For Skye, the smallest member of the team, her new powers are a dream come true. But things take a turn for the worse when the pups' arch-rival Humdinger breaks out of jail and teams up with a mad scientist to steal the superpowers for the two villains. With the fate of Adventure City hanging in the balance, the Mighty Pups have to stop the supervillains before it's too late, and Skye will need to learn that even the smallest pup can make the biggest difference.

The voice cast includes Mckenna Grace, Taraji P. Henson, Marsai Martin, Christian Convery, Kim Kardashian, North West, Saint West, James Marsden, Kristen Bell, and Finn Lee-Epp.
