From Academy Award-winning director Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc., Up, Inside Out) and Kemp Powers (co-director), Soul is the latest Disney-Pixar release.
Joe Gardner (voiced by Jamie Foxx) – is a middle-school band teacher who gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town. Unfortunately, a fateful accident takes him from the streets of New York City to The Great Before – a special place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests (think Inside Out meets Coco) before they make their final adventure to Earth.
Confident that he deserves another chance on earth, Joe teams up with a unique and adventurous soul, 22 (voiced by Tina Fey), who has never understood the appeal of the human experience. While Joe does his best to show 22 what’s so great about living, he may just discover the answers to some of life’s most important questions.
Disney-Pixar films rarely miss the mark, and in the last 5 years or so two of my favorites have been Inside Out (2015), and Coco (2017). I really like the balance of real-life and comedy, providing viewers with plenty of heart and humor and this feels like yet another feather in their cap.
Soul is set to drop on the Disney+ streaming service December 25th. Watch the latest trailer below.
