Millie Bobby Brown stars as the teen sister of the famed detective Sherlock Holmes in the upcoming Netflix crime drama, Enola Holmes. The film is based on the Nancy Springer book series “The Enola Holmes Mysteries”, which follows the much younger sister of the Holmes’ brothers. Brown needs no introduction to the Netflix community, as she burst onto the scene in 2016 in the hit sci-fi drama series Stranger Things.
“When Enola Holmes-Sherlock's teen sister-discovers her mother missing, she sets off to find her, becoming a super-sleuth in her own right as she outwits her famous brother and unravels a dangerous conspiracy around a mysterious young Lord.”
From the research I have done it seems Jack Thorne, who penned the screenplay, took some creative freedoms as far as the details surrounding the book series. Based on the trailer alone, and considering I have yet to read the book, this certainly looks to be a blast of a film and a great book-to-screen adaptation. At the very least the trailer sets the bar high as the production value is top-notch. The supporting cast is perfect as well with Henry Cavill and Sam Claflin, Sherlock and Mycroft Homes respectively, so it is safe to say the sky is the limit for Enola Holmes. Yet another direct-to-streaming film as it was confirmed in April that Netflix acquired the rights ensuring it would not get a theatrical release. Either way, I am looking forward to enjoying this in the comfort of my own home.
The film is set to hit Netflix on September 23rd. Watch the new trailer below.
